Who are we?
The British Embassy in Ashgabat is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic, commercial and consular interests overseas. We are currently looking for a Security Guard.
Main purpose of job:
To provide a guarding service that ensures the safety and security of Embassy staff and visitors, as well as protecting the Ambassador’s Residence.
The Embassy security guards work as a team with shared responsibilities that follow established procedures for security. The guards are the first point of contact for all visitors to the Embassy and Residence and must communicate information clearly in English, Russian and Turkmen.
Roles and responsibilities:
Access control (25%):
- Enforce control procedures for the Embassy and Residence, ensuring that only staff and authorised visitors are granted entry, and that external visitors are appropriately escorted.
- Conduct searches of individuals, vehicles and packages as required.
Perimeter security (25%):
- Conduct regular foot patrols to identify potential risks.
- Monitor and, when necessary, investigate any suspicious items, vehicles or activities close to the perimeter.
Security monitoring (20%):
- Monitor the buildings’ security systems, including CCTV and radio communications.
- Conduct in-person checks in the event an emergency alarm at the Embassy or Residence is activated.
Emergency preparedness and response (20%):
- Conduct routine tests of the alarms at the Embassy and Residence.
- Provide immediate response to any emergency scenario.
Customer service (10%):
- Guide visitors on arrival at the Embassy or Residence, providing information and assistance as appropriate

Our ideal candidate shows:
- Proficiency at a B1 level in English according to CEFR*.
- Proficiency at a B2 at Russian according to CEFR*.
- Proficiency at a B1 level in Turkmen according to CEFR*.
- At least 2 years of experience in security work.
- Experience with access control, monitoring CCTV and alarm systems and physical security checks.
- Able to use Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Communication skills – Polite and clear interaction with staff and visitors.
- Attention to detail – Ability to quickly notice suspicious behaviour or changes in the environment.

This is a full-time, permanent contract. Working hours are up to 48 hours (including breaks) during a 7-day period.
This job involves alternating 12-hour day shifts and 12-hour night shifts with rest days in between. Shifts take place on Saturdays and Sundays, as well as Monday – Friday. On average, there are 15/16 shifts a month.
For two months in a calendar year the working hours are Monday to Friday only, from 0900-1730 (including breaks).
Applicants should be available to work for whole 12-hour duration of the relevant day time or night time shift, in line with the standard shift pattern. In some circumstances security guards are requested to take on additional shifts, which are compensated by additional rest periods or time off in lieu (TOIL). All members of the security team follow a shift pattern, which is managed by the Post Security Manager.
The successful candidate will receive a full induction into the Embassy and job-specific training as a Security Guard, including First Aid. The Embassy values learning and encourages staff to make time for professional development. All staff can to take advantage of the wide package of learning available.

The successful candidate will be subject to a professional background check, security clearance, and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of up to 6 months.
