Main purpose of job:
This is an excellent opportunity to join the trade energy team in the British High Commission network in India. You will be part of a fast-paced, supportive and dynamic team, delivering the UK government’s goals on creating a cleaner and greener planet.
The UK is a leader in the green technologies sector and has become the first country in the world to legislate the goal of reducing emissions to Net Zero by 2050. Clean Energy sits at the heart of UK government activities, with the UK focussing on priorities including advancing offshore wind (OSW), driving the growth of low carbon hydrogen, investing in carbon capture utilisation and storage (CCUS), to help the UK in its Net Zero journey and support economies globally to tackle climate change.
The core focus of the role will be in identifying and delivering export/business opportunities including Overseas Direct Investment to India for UK businesses in the Renewable Energy (RE) / clean energy sectors. The role would entail building an effective strategy and furthering existing work in the focus sub-sectors to create commercial opportunities for UK companies. The job holder will drive and deliver the team’s work for their region (Western India) and on assigned sectors pan-India.
This role will be based in Mumbai and will report into the energy sector lead based in New Delhi. The job involves travel from time-to-time as part of the role. Relevant job-related training will be given as required.
You will bring with you, or demonstrate how you would quickly acquire, an in-depth knowledge of the energy sector and build a strategy to develop a pipeline of commercial opportunities for UK businesses. To do so, you will build upon relationships with key stakeholders whilst proactively seeking out new clients and opportunities. You will work collaboratively with colleagues from the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and wider partners in the UK to bring UK companies to India and support them to win business. You will also identify trade barriers in this sector and work collaboratively with the industry and other parts of the Government to help resolve those barriers. Your role will involve amplifying the UK government and industry voice in the sector, which will require securing access to the most senior levels within Indian industry and government, leveraging senior colleagues in your location of posting and in the trade and investment teams, as well as across the British High Commission network in India.
You will be a self-starter who can demonstrate long-term objectives; plan and manage a delivery model; and identify, grow and make effective use of stakeholders. You will work with trade and investment colleagues in our South Asia network and elsewhere, with other UK government colleagues, Indian government officials (including states), businesses and other multipliers (trade associations, etc.).
We reserve the right to review, revise or amend the roles and responsibilities from time to time reflecting the changing business needs.

In addition, the DBT team provides opportunity for sector specific ‘developing skills & knowledge’ training to increase understanding of the UK market or any specific trainings required for the role.
The job is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact on the UK’s trade and investment links with India on this priority sector.
