Main purpose of job:
You will be part of the British High Commission’s Communications Team, who lead on all communication, media, and public diplomacy activities.
As one of two Communications Managers, you will deliver high-impact communications of the strategic priorities of the UK and BHC, delivering impact for and promoting the BHC and His Majesty’s Government (HMG) in line with strategic objectives. You will lead communications in specific policy areas, including media and public engagement on those priority areas. Initially, those policy areas are climate, science and technology, and public diplomacy.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:
Campaign Planning and Media Engagement (60%)
- Plan and deliver integrated events and communications campaigns across all policy areas, including development of compelling narratives, media strategies, and digital content
- Develop and implement media plans including press releases, briefings, op-eds, speaking points and Q&As on strategic and topical policy issues
- Cultivate relationships with key journalists across relevant sectors in Singapore media
- Set up interviews, place articles, and secure media coverage for UK priorities, ministers, and senior officials
- Handle media engagement around ministerial visits, royal visits, and high-profile BHC events
- Prepare briefing materials for visiting ministers and senior officials on communicating effectively in the Singapore context
Cross-team Collaboration and Evaluation (40%)
- Collaborate with Digital Manager to develop engaging digital content that bring stories to life
- Support the wider communications team on cross-cutting priorities including crisis communications and reactive media handling
- Evaluate all campaigns using data and insights to demonstrate impact, understand audiences, and inform future communications strategy
- Ensure all communications activity is insight-driven, properly targeted, and meets Government Communications Service standards

- Proven ability to build relationships with journalists, pitch stories, secure coverage, and handle media enquiries professionally

Experience:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in communications, media relations, PR or journalism
- Demonstrable experience securing media coverage, placing articles, and managing journalist relationships
- Planning and delivering communications campaigns with clear objectives and evaluation
- Briefing or supporting senior officials, executives or spokespeople
- Working with policy, commercial or operational teams to identify and maximise communications opportunities
- Producing a range of written materials including press releases, briefings, speeches and digital content
Qualifications:
- Educated to minimum A-level standard or equivalent
- Fluent in written and spoken English

Skills:
- Understanding of how to leverage cultural, educational, and innovation assets to build relationships and influence
- Ability to contribute to digital content development and understand how digital channels complement media strategies
- Skills in planning and delivering public-facing events that support communications objectives
- Ability to translate complex policy issues into accessible, engaging content for public audiences
Experience:
- Working in government, diplomatic missions, or international organisations
- Communicating in policy areas relevant to this role (climate, science, technology, innovation)
- Communicating with international audiences or in a cross-cultural environment

- Knowledge of Singapore’s media landscape, political context or regional dynamics
Qualifications:

Working patterns:
Normal working hours are 37.5 per week: 8:30AM to 5:00PM from Monday to Friday. The team operates a ‘core hours’ policy of 10:30AM to 2:30PM with individual flexibility around that.
Terms of service:
The preferred candidate will have a creative and innovative approach to digital storytelling, with strong attention to detail, an ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines. You will be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities. You will be a collaborative team player. An understanding of UK-Singapore bilateral relations would be advantageous, as would knowledge of Singapore’s media landscape and digital ecosystem.

- Staff recruited locally by the British High Commission are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local Singapore employment law.
