The British Consulate General in Jeddah has a vacancy for a Corporate Services Manager (CSM) for a fixed-term contract for two (2) years.

The jobholder will be responsible for the daily management of corporate services in Jeddah, covering HR, finance, estates, and transport. In this fast-paced role, the jobholder will lead on the management of the office and residential Estate with support from the Corporate Services Team (CST). They will also facilitate procurement and contracts at Post with support from the Head of HR, Finance, Policy, and Compliance based in Riyadh.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Responsible for HR, Finance, Transport, Estates, and Maintenance at Post in line with Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) rules, regulations, and guidelines, with guidance and support from the Director of Corporate Services (DCS) in Riyadh who has ultimate accountability for all areas.
  • Ensure the estate is well maintained, including ensuring it meets Health & Safety (H&S) standards and is run efficiently and economically (i.e., securing value for money).
  • Manage various existing/ new supplier relations to ensure value for money, quality, and timeliness of delivery.
  • HR responsibility for all country based staff (CBS) at Post, including new starters.
  • Coordinate the collation of VAT invoices with the Jeddah Corporate Services Team and provide additional information in a timely manner as requested by Riyadh Post VAT Officer.
  • Manage the BCG building and the Estate of nine (9) villas and amenities.
  • Close coordination between budget holding authorities in KSA Network for corporate, events, and visits.
  • Cross-departmental work around key events as an operational lead.
  • Work within a defined budget for repair and maintenance (R&M).
  • Additional duties as requested by DCS and the Consul General.

The jobholder will manage staff in: Corporate Services (x3), Transport (x4), and Technical Works (x3).

The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible as specific responsibilities could change in the future and this would be at the discretion of the line manager. The job description may be reviewed to meet changes in business needs. The jobholder may also take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any other response to a crisis.

Eligibility:

  • The successful candidate must be able to secure a local residence and work permit in Saudi (iqama) OR already have the right to work and reside in Saudi.
  • The British Consulate General provides visa sponsorship. The successful candidate will be required to transfer their visa under the Consulate General’s sponsorship.

  • Previous experience in a similar role, including managing budgets and resources and HR provision.
  • Experience of leading, managing and delivering through a team, responding to demands of a wide range of stakeholders and servicing them accordingly.
  • Understanding of customers and delivering excellent service.
  • Excellent organisational ability, with proven ability to manage, plan, and prioritise tasks and workload; and a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to manage resources, including own time and tasking, and use initiative.
  • Flexible, resilient, decisive, and calm under pressure. With a proven track record of delivering results to a high standard within tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and spoken. Able to express ideas and messages confidently, clearly, and concisely, both orally and in written communication.
  • Strong IT skills and literacy in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).

  • Familiarity with Oracle-based applications for finance and procurement (including Hyperion and OBIEE).
  • Holds a relevant finance/ accounting (ACCA, CIMA, CFA, etc.) or business qualification, or is currently pursuing one.
  • Familiarity with UK government/ public sector processes and policies on financial and budget management.
  • Experience of working in the GCC and/ or wider Middle East region.
  • Arabic language skills.

The Consulate General is a fantastic place to work with a real collegiate and supportive environment. Regular staff events are run such as all staff days (most recently a mangrove planting activity was conducted at KAEC), as well as other ad-hoc events (self-defence training, carbon literacy training, etc.) and Consulate-wide events (such as the annual King’s Birthday Party). Staff also have the opportunity to use the Consulate’s facilities, such as swimming pool, gym, and squash court.

The Consulate General aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role.

Monthly salary details:

  • Base Salary – SAR 9,256
  • Housing Allowance – SAR 2,314 (subject to eligibility)*
  • Travel Allowance – SAR 500 (subject to eligibility)*
  • Total – SAR 12,070

*Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form. Spouses/ Dependents of UKBS officers working at the Embassy/ Consulate General are not eligible to Housing or Travel Allowance.

No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

This position is full-time, based on 35 hours per week. Normal working hours for the Embassy/ Consulate General are from 08:00 to 15:00 from Sunday to Thursday, with core working hours from 10:00-15:00. Core working hours is the period of the day that employees are required to be at work. The working day outside of the core hours is a flexible period, which allows employees to choose when they work, subject to operational needs.

The jobholder will be required to be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out of hours (evening/ weekend). Flexible working arrangements may be considered based on operational requirements and agreement with the line manager, and in line with FCDO and Embassy/ Consulate General policies.

The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-day probationary period.

The successful candidate will be required to transfer their iqama under the Embassy’s/ Consulate General’s sponsorship.
