The British Embassy Riyadh has a vacancy for a Driver, job grade S1, on a fixed term contract of one (1) year.
The jobholder will be part of the Transport Team, maintaining a high standard of driving skills and punctuality to ensure the safety, comfort, and dignity of all passengers.

Duties and responsibilities:
- Demonstrating excellent driving skills. Safely transport staff, visitors, and delegates to and from specified locations in a timely manner.
- Assist with the loading and offloading of staff luggage, products, and materials to and from specified locations.
- Conduct daily basic vehicle checks to maintain safety and cleanliness, e.g., check oil, clean windscreen, tyre pressure, fill fuel, fill screen wash.
- Ensure the car seats and car interior are clean.
- Regularly check Embassy provided first aid kit, fire extinguisher, radio set, etc., and ensure these are in good working order.
- Use navigation apps to determine the best route to destination and map out driving routes ahead of time to determine the most expedient trip. Adjust the route to avoid heavy traffic or road construction as needed.
- Listen to traffic and weather reports to stay up to date on road conditions.
- Follow and respect all traffic rules, including using hands-free devices when receiving phone calls while driving.
- Dress smartly at all times and especially when key delegations and VIP officials are visiting.
- Answer clients’ questions about the area and local places of interest.
- Schedule regular car service appointments with Embassy mechanics/Service Centers and report any issues immediately.
- Conduct purchases for office expenditure using cash or GPC (officially provided card), obtain receipts and account for all expenditure.
- Collecting the mail from MFA and other locations as instructed on the transport schedule and delivering mail and invitations.
- Performing additional duties to support wider Corporate Service functions as and when required.
- Foster a respectful and inclusive atmosphere for all passengers and colleagues.
- Demonstrate professionalism and courtesy, especially when interacting with diverse groups.
- Participate in training and development opportunities, including defensive driving and customer service.
- Support Embassy values including equality, diversity, and inclusion.
The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible as specific responsibilities could change in the future, and this would be at the discretion of the line manager or head of section. The jobholder may also take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any other response to a crisis.

Eligibility:
The position is available to Saudi nationals and to current holders of valid Saudi residence permits or transferable iqama. If you already have the right to work and reside in Saudi (iqama), you will be required to transfer your visa under the Embassy’s sponsorship.
Working hours and remuneration:
The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role.
Monthly salary details:
- Base Salary – SAR 4,154.40
- Housing Allowance – SAR 1,128.60 (subject to eligibility)*
- Travel Allowance – SAR 500.00 (subject to eligibility)*
- Total – SAR 6,143.00
*Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form. Spouses/ Dependants of UKBS officers working at the Embassy are not eligible to Housing or Travel Allowance.
No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
This position is for a fixed term contract for one (1) year. The British Embassy Riyadh employs Country Based Staff in line with Saudi Labour Law. Contracts for full time positions are renewable at the end of the term.
This position is full-time, based on 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day, 5 days a week. The jobholder will be required to be flexible as work hours will be dictated by operational needs and will involve working outside of normal office of hours (evening/ weekend), including public holidays.
Normal working hours for the Embassy are from 08:00 to 15:00 from Sunday to Thursday, with core working hours from 10:00-15:00. Core working hours is the period of the day that employees are required to be at work. The working day outside of the core hours is a flexible period, which allows employees to choose when they work, subject to operational needs.
The jobholder will be required to be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out of hours (evening and weekend), including at public holidays. Flexible working arrangements may be considered based on operational requirements and agreement with the line manager, and in line with FCDO and Embassy policies.
The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-day probationary period.
The successful candidate will be required to transfer their iqama under the Embassy’s sponsorship.

Process:
The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around two-three months. The security clearance process includes checks available in country and with UK, dependant on the security level required for the role and the candidates’ profile and UK footprint. You may experience some delay in the progress of this recruitment campaign, and we are working hard to minimise any disruption.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful at interview may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of six (6) months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
