The British Embassy Tunis invites applications for the position of Accommodation Officer, job grade Administrative Officer (AO), on a fixed term contract for one (1) year (renewable). The jobholder will support the Estates Manager in the running of hired residential accommodation and Embassy.
Duties and responsibilities:
– Accommodation (60%)
- Support the Estates Manager (EM) in the running of hired residential accommodation and Embassy.
- Assist the EM in sourcing new residential properties for UK Based Staff (UKBS) through local estate agents.
- Sourcing office furniture and residential furniture. Maintain up-to-date furniture inventories.
- Lead on flat/house moves for UKBS.
- Liaise with contractors carrying out works in properties before first occupation and between occupants.
- Ensure cleaning standards are met in residential accommodation prior to first occupancy
- Carry out march-out procedures with UKSBS in residential accommodation upon final departure.
- Ensure that Health & Safety (HS) guidance is followed and quality standards are met at all times
- Update the Estates database (Planon).
– Finance and payments (20%)
- Monitor and process rent payments for the residential estate.
- Keep updated spreadsheets of due rent payments.
- Responsible for processing utility payments (water and electricity) in a timely manner to avoid cuts.
- Engage with external key stakeholders (e.g., STEG, SONEDE) and suppliers as appropriate.
– Procurement (15%)
- Setup of new suppliers and distribution sets in our in-house finance and procurement management system (Oracle-based).
- Handle procurement and invoicing linked to the Estates operations
- Ensure value for money (VFM) purchasing and conduct cost comparison
- Function as requisitioner and receiver for our in-house finance and procurement management system (Oracle-based).
– Corporate services support (5%)
- Provide cover for colleagues in the Estates Team during periods of leave/ absence.
- Other ad hoc tasks within the Corporate Services section.
The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible as specific responsibilities could change in the future and this would be at the discretion of the line manager. The job description may be reviewed to meet changes in business needs. The jobholder may also take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any other response to a crisis.

The British Embassy in Tunis offers an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role. Initial salary will be TND 2,556 per month while on probation. Salary after probation is TND 3,143. However, staff who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary (i.e., UKBS spouse/ partner) may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount.
This position is for a full-time employment on a fixed term contract basis for one (1) year (renewable). The successful candidate will be subject to a three-month probationary period that can be further extended up to six months. The appointment is also subject to satisfactory local and UK security clearances.
Conditioned working hours are 40 hours gross per week (inclusive of breaks). Standard working hours are from 08:00-16:30 from Mondays to Thursdays and from 08:00-13:00 on Fridays.
Unless authorised otherwise, we expect staff to be physically present in the Embassy five days per week. A flexible working pattern may be possible depending on operational requirements and agreement with the line manager, and in line with FCDO and Embassy policies. The jobholder should be flexible in their approach to hours worked as there may be some work out of hours (evening/ weekend).
The jobholder will have opportunities to benefit from a range of Learning and Development (L&D) initiatives. There is great opportunity for learning and development ‘on the job’. We also have an active L&D Committee, which promotes different ways of learning and to which applications can be made for specific, funded learning activity. The jobholder will also be required to undertake a number of mandatory training courses as part of their role.
The International Academy (IA) is the home of L&D for the FCDO. It covers a wide range of essential as well as job-specific subjects; and is designed to ensure that all staff can access high quality learning products. The jobholder will also have access to the FCDO’s Diplomatic Academy. Our staff are given responsibility and autonomy (and support), allowing them to develop skills and confidence through delivery.
