The British Embassy is looking for a Trade and Economic Policy Intern, to assist the British Government’s delivery of the Foreign Policy agenda overseas.
Mexico is an important and growing economic partner for the UK and there is real potential to increase and diversify our trade and investment relationship over the coming years. Reducing market access barriers, implementing our Trade Continuity Agreement (TCA) with Mexico and supporting the UK’s accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), are all priorities for the Embassy given their potential to open and expand markets for British products and services, while providing new opportunities for Mexico with the UK. In addition, we closely work with the Mexican government to boost innovation in the financial services sector by the means of a regulatory framework that offer more opportunities for UK firms to operate in Mexico.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to this agenda by providing in-depth analysis on key economic and financial issues related to Mexico. He or she will be able to shape our priorities by proposing topics that he or she considers important and of interest, in consultation with the wider Team.
This is an exciting and challenging position, which covers a wide range of analytical and policy tasks as well as administrative and logistical ones. It will involve contact with most sections of the Embassy and a range of external contacts in Mexico and the UK. We often work under time pressure in a fast-paced environment. This is a great opportunity for a talented individual to work and learn at the heart of economic issues in a large foreign Embassy in Mexico.
