The Trade Promotion Assistant role will be based at the British Embassy in Yerevan. You will be part of a small, friendly and energetic team focused on promoting business links between the UK and Armenia. The role will report to and support the Embassy’s Trade and Prosperity Officer.  You will have your own portfolio of work: generating and maintaining local and UK business contacts; identifying new business opportunities; resolving barriers to trade and investment; and supporting local technology companies to expand into the UK. You will work closely with DBT colleagues across Eastern Europe and Central Asia including our Regional Hub in Istanbul.

Roles and responsibilities:

Trade Promotion

A core function of the role will be promoting UK exports to Armenia. This will be delivered through building a network of contacts across government, international finance institutions, and the private sector to identify upcoming opportunities for UK businesses to get involved in.

You will support the organisation of trade missions, commercial events, as well as inward and outward visit programmes. You will produce reporting on economic and policy developments in Armenia relevant to trade, including developments in Armenian government and multilateral financial institutions.

Market Access

Another core function of the role is supporting UK businesses that are facing barriers to their entry or operations within Armenia. This will be delivered through proactive engagement with UK businesses, Armenian British Business Chamber and state agencies. Issues can include local content requirements, customs clearance procedures, intellectual property issues. You will design market access strategies and implement action plans through a mixture of different instruments, such as lobbying, technical assistance, and high-level interventions.

Inward Investment – Technology

The role will also support the development of an active client pipeline of Armenian technology companies looking to invest in the UK. This will be delivered through developing and managing relationships with C-level executives and business leaders. You will also deliver activities, with the goals of increasing awareness of the UK’s market proposition to potential investors and generating investment leads.

  •  At least three years of relevant work experience in project management, business development, client facing environment, relationship management, economic reporting or other related discipline;

  • Sound knowledge of Armenia’s key economic developments and business environment;

  • Proven ability to build strong and effective networks and relationships with a range of stakeholders including senior stakeholders and partners; 

  • Excellent drafting skills in English, and advanced fluency in both written and spoken English is a prerequisite (C2 level according to CEFR*);

  • Professional working fluency in Armenian (C1 level according to CEFR*);

  • Strong work ethic and good professional judgement with the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds;

  • Ability to work in a busy open environment supporting team members;

  • Dynamic outlook with the ability to maintain flexibility, sometimes shifting focus and responding to changes in priorities;

  • Knowledge of MS Office suite of packages including MS Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

  • Experience in tracking KPIs, developing reports and processing administrative payment tasks within agreed deadlines;

  • Good knowledge and understanding of Armenia’s technology ecosystem;

  • Intermediate proficiency of written and spoken Russian would be beneficial.

This is full-time and permanent contract of 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday) from 09:00 to 17:00. Flexible working is available.

The gross monthly salary is AMD 719,837 AMD (paid x12 instalments yearly).

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background and security clearance.

The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation to work in Armenia, in order to apply. The British Embassy does not sponsor work permits.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Armenia are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Armenian employment law.
