Introduction:
CARE Iraq, in collaboration with The Lotus Flower, initiated a joint project on May 1, 2023, to address the protection needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) residing in informal settlements. This project emphasizes risk mitigation and response enhancement, with a significant focus on protecting all groups within four IDP communities in Duhok governorate.
Location of training: Duhok,
Objective:
- The primary objective of this consultancy is to deliver training sessions on three key topics:
- Consent: Explaining the concept of consent and its proactive role in preventing sexual violence within the IDP communities. Participants will also learn how to teach children about sexual abuse, emphasizing the rule that nobody should touch them without their consent. Through interactive discussions and scenarios, attendees will learn how to communicate the concept of consent effectively with children. Participants will also receive practical tips to share with children when teaching them about consent.
- Bystander Intervention: Introducing the concept of bystander approaches with the goal of empowering individuals to intervene safely when witnessing instances of intimate partner violence and/or violence against women and children, tailored to fit the Iraqi context. Given the sensitivity of this approach and in accordance with do no harm principles, survivor and bystander safety should be prioritized when designing the training. The approach has to be tweaked to ensure safety, and the focus should be on safe referrals as a form of intervention, fostering a community-wide commitment to prevention.
- Caring for Child Survivors: Providing case workers with essential skills for the effective and sensitive care of child survivors of sexual abuse.
Important to note: All training sessions should be delivered based on globally recognized standards and evidence-based training manuals, carefully tailored to suit the unique cultural and contextual nuances of Kurdistan, ensuring maximum effectiveness and relevance for the target audience.
