Contract Duration
Visiting Professionals are required to work full time for a period between three and six months (to be agreed to prior to commencement).
The Opportunity
The International Criminal Court (ICC) investigates and, where warranted, tries individual charges with the gravest crimes of concerns to the international community: genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and crime of aggression. The Court is participating in the global fight to end impunity, and through the international criminal justice, the Court aims to hold those responsible accountable for their crimes and to help prevent the crimes from happening again. You can contribute to this cause by joining the ICC.
Organisational Context
The Office of the Prosecutor investigates and prosecutes genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes committed by nationals of a State Party or on the territory of a State Party on or after 1 July 2002, the date of entry into force of the Rome Statute.
The Integrated Services Division within the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) centralises the specialised functions that provide cross-cutting support to the Office. The Division is headed by a Director who is responsible for managing the reliable and cost-effective delivery of integrated services and ensuring that the OTP is adequately supported through all relevant service functions, technologies and equipment, and that appropriate services are available to allow the implementation of the Office’s mandate. The services include planning and operations, witness protection and management, information knowledge and evidence management, forensic science, language and administrative support. The Division works to develop new approaches and strategies that promote the use of modern tools and advanced technology as mechanisms to strengthen the effectiveness of the Office.
The Forensic Science Section is in charge of the following functions:
Duties and Responsibilities
The candidate will be assigned to work within the Forensic Science Section, supporting its evidence collection and/or analytical capacity.
Under the general supervision of the Director of the Integrated Services Division and the direct supervision of the Head, Forensic Science Section, the incumbent can expect to perform one or more of the following duties:
Required Qualifications
Education:
All Candidates must have a science degree from a recognized university.
Experience:
Visiting Professional placements focus on candidates who have extensive experience in their professional careers in relevant fields of work. Applicants for placements in the Forensic Science Section would be required to have extensive professional experience in forensic science, preferably in the context of investigation of serious human rights violations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of Languages:
Proficiency in English is required. Working knowledge of French is desirable.

Remuneration
Please note that the ICC is not able to provide participants in the Internship and Visiting Professional Programme with remuneration, nor is it possible to provide reimbursement for any expenses incurred during the internship. Accordingly, applicants must have the necessary resources or other financial support for the duration of the internship for which they have been selected.
