ABOUT US

We are a not-for-profit, GP led mobile medical service for those who are vulnerable or experiencing homelessness.

We collaborate with pre-existing homelessness charities, shelters, and services to provide primary healthcare specifically for this cohort.

Currently operating from several sites across Sydney on a regular weekly basis (with plans to grow interstate in the near future), each clinic is staffed by skilled volunteers who work from a well-equipped mobile medical van, providing a primary health care service to the standard of a normal General Practice.

Our Vision is to deliver better health and wellbeing outcomes for people who are vulnerable or experiencing homelessness.

Street Side Medics is a Registered Charity and is largely volunteer run.

ABOUT YOU

You are a self-motivated team player with a knack for working independently and pivoting to different areas of need each day. You have a passion for connecting with a diverse range of people, from specialist doctors to those without a place to call home, and giving them all the respect, they deserve.

Our team of volunteers is the heart of our mission, and we’re looking for a Volunteer Coordinator who can help us expand and cultivate a professional yet fun volunteering culture.

POSITION SUMMARY

Street Side Medics is expanding its services to Melbourne and looking for a team member who can assist in recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding new volunteers while also supporting current ones. This role will be based in Victoria but will be assisting with the coordination of volunteers Australia wide. You will report to the Volunteer Manager but will work alongside the State Manager- VIC to ensure local services are supported.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for national volunteer inquiries
  • Assist in maintaining the volunteer management platform and database
  • Manage a lengthy volunteer waitlist, ensuring regular updates on new roles
  • Coordinate inventory, distribution, and ordering of volunteer uniforms and other merchandise
  • Assist with the screening and onboarding process for new volunteers
  • Support the coordination of volunteer training sessions, both in-person and online
  • Aid in the recruitment of new volunteers and develop innovative strategies to attract candidates
  • Organize volunteer events, including annual team gatherings and smaller clinic-based events
  • Assist team leaders with scheduling and recruiting for new roles
  • Collect and compile volunteer contributions, including surveys
  • Regularly attend clinic sessions
  • Support the Volunteer Manager in identifying areas for improvement and addressing gaps in service delivery to better support patients and volunteers
  • Perform other administrative duties as needed and as directed by the Volunteer Manager

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Proven ability to communicate clearly and concisely with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Highly organised, with a clear approach to planning
  • Adaptable and able to seize opportunities
  • Flexible time management, especially for evening clinic work
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar organisational support role
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and ability to navigate other organisational software
  • A sense of fun is essential!
