The Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education is launching a new Volunteer Leader program! VOLES , short for Volunteer Leaders, learn new skills while building meaningful connections between people and nature in your community. VOLES are a cohort of volunteers who cultivate restoration and community engagement skills that prepares them to lead alongside our staff and grants valuable experience working in an environmental nonprofit setting.
VOLEs participate in a series of trainings that cover topics such as the history of the Schuylkill Center, leadership skills, land stewardship, and current volunteer programs. In return for this specialized training, VOLEs commit to 20 volunteer hours per year, with at least 10 of those hours being in a leadership role. There is no fee to become a VOLE.
Expectations & Requirements for VOLEs
- Minimum age of 18 years
- Sign the Volunteer Waiver
- Pass PA Child Abuse Clearances and Criminal Background Check
- Attend the 2026 VOLE trainings
- Commit to 20 hours of volunteering per year (10 hours in a leadership specific role)
Interested volunteers must submit the VOLE Application to be considered for the program. The application period closes at 5:00pm on Friday, February 13th, 2026. Accepted applicants will be notified the following week. Submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance, as there are a limited number of slots available.
