Junior Professorship (W1) „Catalysis in Confined Geometries“

As part of the CRC 1333 // AT THE EARLIEST CONVENIENCE

The University of Stuttgart is one of the leading technically oriented universities in Germany in one of Europe’s most vibrant high-tech and industrial areas. The university is a reliable employer, partner for technology transfer and is committed to the interdisciplinary integration of engineering, natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences based on the fundamentals of cutting-edge research at a disciplinary level.

The professorship is aimed at outstanding young scientists in the early career phase (usually up to 4 years after the doctorate), who are conducting modern and creative research in a current field of molecular or surface catalysis. The research field of surface catalysis, especially in the context of mesoporous supports, paves the way for a better understanding of how the incorporation of molecular catalysts in a rigid but defined support environment alters catalytic activity and selectivity. As part of the CRC 1333 work, we take inspiration from enzymatic catalysis by using such rigid porous supports to alter catalyst properties in previously unforeseen ways. Possible research directions will continue the work in CRC 1333. In particular, suitable topics include the immobilization of molecular catalysts for various catalytic reactions, including oxidation reactions, such as small molecule activation, selective C-H activation, and diastereo- and enantioselective reactions. The successful candidate will also be strongly encouraged to contribute to other collaborative programs at the University of Stuttgart, with particular emphasis on strengthening the key areas of “Sustainable Synthesis and Catalysis” and “Smart Materials and Functional Molecules” of the Faculty of Chemistry.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in his/her primary research area under the auspices of an appropriate institute of the Faculty of Chemistry. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the day-to-day operations of the department, including serving on committees and participating in public relations activities.

We are searching for a personality who should be distinguished by high-ranking scientific publications with international visibility.

For a qualitative assessment of your academic accomplishments, we kindly ask you to submit a short description of your three most important scientific achievements, which should be no longer than one page. Conceivable successes are, for example, those in the fields of research, teaching, science, knowledge and technology transfer, inventions and patents or spin-offs.

The requirements for employment listed in § 51 Baden-Württemberg university law (LHG) apply. For more information on the criteria of evaluation and quality management, please visit the website website https://www.uni-stuttgart.de/en/research/early-career-researchers/tenure-track-professorship/..
