The University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover (TiHo) is inviting applications for a W3 Professorship in “Buiatrics” (m/f/d), which should be filled as soon as possible. The position includes the leadership of the Clinic for Cattle at the Clinic for Farm Animals. Appointment to the professorship will be made either as a civil servant or an employee under the W3 salary scale. Depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate, a temporary appointment may also be considered.

 

Area of Responsibility:

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, research, and clinical services in the field of bovine health, addressing both individual animal care and herd-level management.

In research, the professorship should develop a thematic focus within the expansive field of buiatrics. This position sits at the intersection of animal health and treatment, animal welfare, husbandry and hygiene, as well as the safety and quality of animal-derived food products. Collaborative engagement with colleagues at TiHo, as well as interdisciplinary partnerships with national and international research institutions, is essential to advancing these research priorities.

The appointee will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in all aspects of bovine medicine, including herd health, through lectures, practical exercises, demonstrations, and seminars. The role also involves developing innovative and forward-looking teaching methods. Teaching responsibilities extend to TiHo’s PhD and Master’s programmes.

Clinical duties will be conducted within the Farm Animal Clinic, in close collaboration with the Clinic for Swine and Small Ruminants, emphasizing innovative and integrated service concepts.

 

Requirements:

Candidates must demonstrate a well-established research profile with several years of international experience and significant scientific contributions to the field of buiatrics, as evidenced by an outstanding record of publications.

Essential qualifications include a degree in veterinary medicine, demonstrated teaching expertise, a PhD, and either a Habilitation or equivalent academic achievements. Recognition as a specialist in bovine veterinary medicine or an equivalent relevant certification is required. Diplomate status with the European College of Bovine Health Management (ECBHM) or a comparable American College is required.

Applicants must also showcase a strong track record of securing competitive research funding and demonstrate substantial experience in leadership, including staff management, financial oversight, and operational administration.

A commitment to excellence in teaching is critical, supported by evidence of completed courses in university-level pedagogy and consistently positive teaching evaluations. Recruitment requirements are further outlined in § 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG).
