The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Department of Crop Sciences, at the University of Göttingen is seeking to fill a permanent professorship with civil servant status (grade W3 NBesO) at the earliest possible date:

W3 Professorship

in Plant Diseases and Crop Protection (f/m/d)

The post-holder will be expected to address issues pertaining to the emergence, spread, and integrated control of plant diseases in crops in both research and teaching, encompassing a wide scope. Additionally, they are required to showcase and cultivate a research profile, with a focus on one or more of the following areas:

  • Disease impact of pathogens in key cropping systems Evolution, spread and epidemiology of major pests in relation to environmental factors and production measures Development of sustainable crop protection strategies, integrating natural and preventative control mechanisms and innovative approaches Evaluation and risk assessment of crop protection strategies Influence of multiple stresses and stress interactions (biotic/abiotic) Resistance mechanisms and phenotyping of crops Pathogen invasion and re-emergence Digital technologies for plant protection

Research should be clearly related to agronomic issues and have an international focus. The inclusion of crops and production systems under field conditions, and the consideration of biotic and abiotic factors in agricultural ecosystems is preferred.

We are in search of an exceptional, team-oriented researcher with a strong international publication track record and expertise in teaching, along with a proven track record in securing and executing research projects aligned with the candidate’s career stage. The research should center on agricultural topics with a distinct international profile. We anticipate an interdisciplinary approach and collaboration not only within the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences but also with other faculties and members of the Göttingen Campus. This collaboration may include participation in DFG collaborative research projects or similar formats.

The professorship will contribute to teaching in the Bachelor and Master programs of Agricultural Sciences (Crop Sciences), in the Master programs of Crop Protection, Sustainable International Agriculture, Integrated Plant and Animal Breeding and Biodiversity, Ecology and Evolution and in the Faculty’s doctoral program. The successful candidate is expected to teach in both German and English (after a training period, if necessary). The University of Göttingen emphasizes research-oriented teaching.
