WAM Regional Standards & Training Manager, Latin America & the Caribbean (LAC)

The salary package for this position is £76,028 GBP per annum (approx. $100,0148 USD), including all allowances.

This role can be based from home in the Western Hemisphere, or from a MAG programme – Peru or Ecuador. The package set out is based on the post holder being based in Peru or Ecuador. For any other place of work, the remuneration will be confirmed upon request, following a review of whether MAG can employ in that location. Further information is provided on our website.

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

About the LAC portfolio

Across the Latin America & Caribbean region MAG is operational and established in the countries of Peru, Ecuador, Paraguay with a remote programme of assistance to El Salvador about to commence and we also work out of Trinidad & Tobago across a number of Caribbean states in support of CARICOM IMPACS. Across this wide region MAG works in support of a variety of state armed actors ranging from the military to various police forces delivering a range of Weapons and Ammunition management activities. These include large scale disposal of explosive ordnance, weapons and small arms ammunition destruction, training in a variety of WAM disciplines, weapons marking and inventory management as well as delivering significant physical security and stockpile management upgrades to facilities across the region.

About the role

The Standards and Training Manager (STM) will support technical WAM operations across the Latin America and Caribbean region. Reporting to the Regional Director and working in close cooperation with the Programme Quality Team (PQT), the STM will manage and develop technical training and standards across the region in all matters relating to WAM operations, equipment and training, and provide both remote and in-person support to in-country technical staff in line with MAG standards. The STM will manage, develop and lead on quality management of WAM field operations to maintain standards and encourage continual improvement of operational processes and procedures and support assessments in new potential countries of operation. This is a great opportunity to be involved in MAG’s life-saving work on a day-to-day basis.

About you

You must be EOD qualified and have experience of working in WAM and EOD with the ability to work across and support multiple and diverse countries. The ability to develop, review and ensure compliance with technical Standard Operating Procedures is also essential to the role. You will be experienced in leading, motivating and managing people, and in mentoring and coaching others. You will also have experience of designing, developing, and delivering formal or informal training, and the transfer of appropriate skills.

The postholder will be innovative, proactive and committed to high quality standards and continually improving effectiveness and efficiency. You will be able to establish and develop effective working relationships at all levels internally and externally and to represent and promote MAG. In addition, you will possess excellent communication, interpersonal and organisation skills, with the ability to plan and coordinate training and quality assurance teams, activities and projects. Experience of working independently for extended periods of time in ‘stand-alone’ environments with minimal supervision is required.

Fluency in English required, Spanish skill highly beneficial.
