Job Description

Job Overview: IRC’s Washington Anti-Trafficking Response (WARN) Program offers support to survivors of human trafficking as they rebuild their lives free from trauma and exploitation. The WARN Advocate provides person-centered, trauma-informed intensive case management to survivors of human trafficking; developing service plans to match individual needs utilizing a range of financial, medical, social, vocational, and other services and resources based on participant needs, eligibility, and priorities.  The WARN Advocate also participates, as required, in program planning, outreach, and service development through committees, task forces, and work groups.
Major Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Deliver trauma-informed, person-centered intensive case management and advocacy services based on individualized needs
  • Provide individualized intake, assessment, orientation, support, referral, and advocacy services by assessing and evaluating each participant’s distinct needs including managing the assistance lines and emails
  • Develop reasonable service plans with each participant and provide information and options during the service period
  • Ensure that participants are provided the information, tools, resources, and support they need to meet their self-identified goals and objectives
  • Facilitate referrals to healthcare, housing, legal services, education, employment support, and other relevant services
  • Support program participants in applying for available public benefits and other services
  • Assess and monitor participant progress to ensure goals are being attained, designated resources are being maximized, and modify plans as required
  • Manage own well-being and self-care with support from WARN program team and IRC Washington leadership
  • Engage in outreach to key partner organizations and vulnerable communities in order to increase identification of human trafficking as well as resources available to survivors
  • Ensure compliance with case file and documentation management and reporting requirements.
  • Engage with larger anti-trafficking communities through WARN partnerships, WashACT (the Washington Advisory Committee on Trafficking), Freedom Network USA, and IRC’s Anti-Trafficking network across US programs
  • Attend team and all staff meetings, participant in collective team and office efforts, and comply with all IRC and local office policies and practices
  • Other activities as needed and assigned

Internal: WashACT Coordinator, Anti-Trafficking Team, Resettlement Team, Employment Team, Immigration Team, Youth Program Team, Economic Empowerment Team, New Roots Team, Health Empowerment Team, Family Wellness Team, Volunteer Coordinator, Finance Team, Development Team
External: WARN Partner organizations – API Chaya, REST, YouthCare – Northwest Justice Project, Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, Seattle Police Department, US Attorney’s Office, Washington Advisory Committee on Trafficking, City of Seattle Human Services Division, Seattle Against Slavery, Washington State Office for Crime Victim Advocacy, Washington State Task Force Against Trafficking in Persons, and additional partners.
Job Requirements:
  • Relevant degree or equivalent professional and/or lived experience
  • Lived experience as a survivor and/or immigrant is preferred
  • In lieu of lived experience, experience working with immigrants who have experienced harm, particularly human trafficking; cross-cultural or overseas experience accepted
  • The skills and knowledge typically acquired through 2-3 years of work experience providing services to people who have experienced harm
  • Demonstrated experience with trauma-informed, person-centered approach
  • Understanding of human trafficking and human rights-based approach
  • Practical understanding of social service systems and resources available to survivors and immigrants, including those without status in the U.S.
  • English proficiency, both spoken and written, and professional proficiency in Spanish or other relevant language(s) required
  • Strong intercultural communication skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and across language diversity
  • Ability to maintain quality case notes and documentation in accurate and timely manner
  • Commitment to anti-racism and ongoing learning
  • Comfortable working in high-stress environments; must be adaptable, flexible, and patient
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills combined and the ability to prioritize duties and manage time effectively
  • Proficient with Windows operating system and confidence in computer skills (word processing, email, data entry); willingness and ability to learn new software
  • Ability to work independently to ensure proactive, quality performance of duties, as well as ability to work as part of a team
  • Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, multicultural environment
  • Access to reliable transportation to travel regularly throughout the service delivery area

Standard, flexible office environment (both remote and in-office setting available)
Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget.  Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.

US Benefits: The IRC offers a comprehensive and highly competitive set of benefits. All US employees are eligible for sick time, a 403b retirement savings plans: up to 4.5% immediately vested matching contribution, plus an 3-7% additional IRC contribution, and an Employee Assistance Program which is available to our staff and their families to support in times of crisis and mental health struggles.
