For every child, Water and sanitation
The WASH Manager reports to the Chief Field Office, P-4 for general supervision and the Chief WASH, P-5, for technical guidance. The WASH Manager is responsible for managing and supervising all stages of the WASH programme from strategic planning and formulation to the delivery of the WASH outcome and output results. The WASH Manager is also responsible for leading and managing the Goma office WASH team in responding to the protracted crisis and other emergencies in North-Kivu and the Maniema provinces, and accountable for ensuring that the WASH outcome and output results are achieved according to plans, allocations, results based-management approaches and methodology, UNICEF’s Strategic Plan, standards of performance and accountability framework. Among other responsibilities, the WASH Manager will be responsible to strengthen UNICEF’s WASH programming in urban settings in Goma and surrounding IDP sites, and to evaluate how UNICEF can better contribute to the sanitation challenges in urban.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have?
Education:
An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: Civil engineering, sanitary engineering or another relevant technical field. Additional relevant post-graduate courses that complement/supplement the main degree is an asset.
Experiences:
DEVELOPMENTAL: a minimum of eight years of professional experience in WASH-related programmes for developing countries is required. At least five years of deployment in a developing country is required.
Proven ability to effectively lead a team to deliver results is required.
HUMANITARIAN: At least 5 years of work in humanitarian situations, including 3 years on international deployment (with UN-Govt-INGO) is required.
Solid experience in responding to health emergency crises (cholera, Ebola) and natural disasters (earthquakes, floods, etc.)
Experience in responding to crises linked to armed conflict.
Experience in urban and peri-urban WASH with a Nexus approach
Knowledge of the Eastern DRC context is an advantage
Language requirement:
Fluency in French and English is required.
Knowledge of another official UN language or a local language is an asset

This position has been assessed as an elevated risk role for Child Safeguarding purposes as it is:a role with direct contact with children, works directly with children, is a safeguarding response role. UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance. Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station, which will be facilitated by UNICEF, is required for IP positions. Appointments are also subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid). Should you be selected for a position with UNICEF, you either must be inoculated as required or receive a medical exemption from the relevant department of the UN. Otherwise, the selection will be cancelled.
All selected candidates will undergo rigorous reference and background checks and will be expected to adhere to these standards and principles. Background checks will include the verification of academic credential(s) and employment history. Selected candidates may be required to provide additional information to conduct a background check.
Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
