For over two decades, World Vision has been working with urban and rural communities in all Regions of Ghana to improve provision of water, promote sanitation and hygiene practices and quality education. World Vision is looking for a highly qualified and motivated person for the position of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Specialist.

Job Summary:

This role is required to implement the plans under the grant awarded to World Vision Ghana by the Conrad Hilton Foundation. The position will coordinate, facilitate implement and monitor the successful execution of WASH projects within the targeted districts of the Ahafo Region (Asutifi North, Asunafo North, Tano North and others) through capacity building, networking, partnership and participation of the district assemblies, other partners & communities. In addition to expertise in implementing WASH Projects, the role will also require the understanding on promoting market based solutions to promote water supply & sanitation project implementation in the targeted area.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Carry out needs assessment and reviews in communities to assess gaps available in the various communities. District/Municipal level master plan documents are available to support this process.
  • Work with the local district/municipal partners to coordinate the preparation of detail WASH project implementation plans and budgets within the targeted districts.
  • Coordinate the implementation of WASH activities using context specific recommended models & approaches. The implementation of water supply interventions will be pursued using the small water enterprise models & approaches which will allow generation of revenues for sustainable financing of the systems.
  • Coordinate the organization & training of project vendors, systems managers, system operators, water & sanitation committees, sanitation marketing entrepreneurs, communities, Church and Government partners, traditional leaders and other partners in relevantWASH models & approaches.
  • Prepare & submit periodic progress reports (monthly, quarterly, semi-annually and annually) on Water Supplyand sanitation activities, outputs and outcomes in the district.
  • Ensure integration of sanitation & hygiene interventions with water supply interventions in the program intervention area, share information to foster learning.

Person Specification:

  • Degree in water supply engineering, environmental Sanitation/Hygiene, Project Management or any related field.
  • Expertise in WASH; with practical and tested knowledge in water supply & sanitation implementation
  • 3 years of experience in working in the WASH Sector
  • Experience in project design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and report writing
  • Deep understanding of community-empowering approaches, including clear involvement of children, women and People with Disabilities and other groups.

  • Understanding of small water enterprise & market based water supply & sanitation solutions
  • Understanding on GESI transformative WASH Program
  • Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities.

  • Proven ability to communicate on WASH topics with diverse groups.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Good development and facilitation skills, including catalyzing, connecting, and building the capacity of community groups/ partners.

    Strong communicator at all levels with interpersonal skills, ability and commitment to listen to others.

  • Demonstrate commitment to the empowerment of the poor in rural communities.

  • Working knowledge of programs/projects cycle management.

    Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff and key partners.

  • Experience in community entry and mobilization and development facilitation.
  • Working knowledge of proposal writing and negotiation skills.
  • Monitoring, reporting and proposal writing skills
  • Perform other duties as required
