Job Summary:
his position serves as a water and wastewater operator supporting ADOT’s 60 regulated and unregulated drinking water and 250 wastewater systems. Performs inspections, testing, maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation tasks on water and wastewater systems as directed by the Operator in Direct Responsible Charge (ORDC) and in compliance with federal, state and local requirements affecting water quality and quantity. May participate in meetings with internal and external stakeholders, municipalities and regulators in responding to inquiries and complaints from the public. May participate in water and wastewater contract reviews and contractor selection processes. Verifies performance of contractors conducting drinking water and wastewater system inspection, testing, maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation. Generates budgetary cost estimates, reviews proposals, and makes recommendations to the ORDC on budgets, the issuance of purchase orders, and payment of invoices. Provides status information to support water and wastewater system performance and operational status.
Job Duties:
- Maintain, repair, and rehabilitate regulated and unregulated agency water and wastewater systems in a compliant, safe and efficient manner. Ensures all systems are kept fully operational and maintenance and repair operations are completed on a timely basis. Coordinate activities with occupants and stakeholders.
- Oversee contractors performing water and wastewater inspection, testing, maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation efforts. Coordinate and schedule activities, review proposals and validate invoices, monitor and report on performance, and ,as needed, supervise contracted work on site.
- Other duties as assigned as related to the position.
Selective Preference(s):
- Current member of at least one of the following organizations: American Water Works Association (AWWA), American Public Works Association (APWA), Arizona Hydrological Society (AHS), Arizona Water & Pollution Control Association (AWPCA), National Ground Water Association (NGWA).
- Five years of water and wastewater experience.
- Experience working with various local, state and federal regulatory agencies.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
Minimum Grade 2 certified water treatment and water distribution operator within 12 months of placement.
Minimum Grade 1 wastewater treatment operator within 12 months of placement.
