Summary Statement
The City of Boise Public Works Department is seeking an experienced environmental education professional to join our team in the position of WaterShed Education Coordinator. The WaterShed is a state-of-the-art Water Education Center located at the West Boise Water Renewal Facility. This position is 50% water-based education and teaching, with additional responsibilities in volunteer management and event coordination.

  • Coordinates and provides environmental educational programs at The WaterShed Education Center
  • Responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of place-based environmental educational programs, events and volunteer opportunities that meet the needs and interests of the community
  • This position works under general direction

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, communications, science or related field, and
  • 3 years of environmental education experience, or
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training

  • Master’s degree in education, communications, science, or a related field
  • Experience in teaching, facilitating groups, public speaking, and climate change communication
  • Managing volunteers and project management and development in a related position
  • Ability and willingness to interact and engage with stakeholders and customers of all ages
  • Bilingual English/Spanish oral proficiency

Level of Knowledge:

  • Standards, practices and trends in the field of environmental educational programming, program implementation and evaluation
  • Environmental studies, including local environmental issues
  • Basic marketing and public relations practices

Ability To:

  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate environmental education programs and events
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies
  • Work with a broad customer demographic to coordinate community, business and volunteer groups
  • Work independently under general supervision
  • Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance and express ideas clearly and concisely
  • Perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation
