Water Quality Technician

About the Position

The Lane County Public Works Environmental Engineering Program is seeking an extra help employee to assist with the stormwater program. The successful applicants will be part of a team conducting environmental and water quality related field work to meet the requirements of the County’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Phase II permit from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) throughout the Eugene and Springfield Metro Area.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Field investigation and inspection of stormwater system infrastructure along County road system
• Use of ESRI ArcGIS for field investigations and data quality assurance and quality control
• Water quality field sampling, as needed
• Desktop analysis of County stormwater system assets
• Coordinating field work efforts with County residents
• Supporting fish removal activities associated with construction sites, as needed

About the Program

The Environmental Engineering Program is within the Engineering and Construction Services Division of Public Works. The focus of the program is leading compliance with Lane County’s current NPDES MS4, Water Pollution Control Facility, and Total Maximum Daily Load permits as well as supporting county capital improvement projects with the following:

• Stormwater system and treatment design
• Environmental permit compliance
• Environmental and hydraulic design for aquatic organism passage

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday; 7:30am – 4:00pm with 30min. lunch; 75% field, 25% office

Salary: $20.00/hour, 40 hours/week, approximately July – early October, flexible start and end date depending on availability
