Water Resource Management for Climate Change Adaptation Specialist

Various organizations working to support the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) for Climate Change Adaptation in Peru have requested the support of Peace Corps Response Volunteers (PCRVs) to serve as Water Resource Management for Climate Change Adaptation Specialists. In the context of climate change, water resource management in Peru faces unprecedented challenges. Peru has a National Plan for Climate Change Adaptation (NAP) with the main objective of guiding this adaptation planning on a national level, with clear priorities focused on reducing exposure and vulnerabilities, as well as increasing the capacity for adapting to the dangers associated with climate change. The National Strategy for Climate Change (ENCC) and the Regional Strategies for Climate Change (ERCC) are binding instruments of mandatory compliance for sector authorities and subnational governments.

The PCRVs will support their host organization in strengthening their Water Resource Management under the guidelines of the ENCC. These actions and efforts will be coordinated with the regional and local governments, with the water administrators, and with the strategic allies of the host organization, as part of an integrated management of such resources. Each PCRV will support their host organization with internal processes, networking, staff professional development, and scientific information management.

Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in Peru together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.

Required Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, Water and Sanitation Services, Agriculture, Hydrology, or a field related to Water Resource Management
• Work experience in public or private institutions with a focus on water resource management
• Experience working in programs of water quality, and the planning or management of water resources
• Experience in non-formal education to achieve behavior change: conducting training for adults with different educational levels, workshops in non-classroom settings, innovative methodologies to train community members in water conservation initiatives.
• High tolerance for ambiguity and high level of flexibility
• Advanced Spanish language (written and spoken) to train a Spanish-speaking audience.
• Sensitivity and adaptability to cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality, and age differences.
