Water Resource Technician: Full-Time Temporary (Seasonal)

Position Description:  The Water Resource Technician, Full Time, Temporary will assist with stormwater monitoring and other data collection of the Capitol Region Watershed District.  The individual responsibilities will include: assist with the installation, operation and maintenance of monitoring equipment.  This will include stormwater discharges at key outlets to the Mississippi River and stormwater Best Management Practices.  Accurately record and store all data collected from monitoring program.  Assist with the monitoring, maintenance and inspections of the District stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs).  During the field season, the majority of the technician’s time will be spent outdoors participating in field monitoring and preparing and/or delivering samples to lab. 

Applicants seeking an Associate or Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent in the field of Water Resources, Earth Science, Natural Resources, Civil Engineering, or related field are preferred. Work Term and Hours: A Full-Time, Temporary Water Resource Technicians will be hired beginning late spring through early fall. In the summer from approximately June through August, work hours are expected to be 40 hours per week Monday through Friday. Part-time work is also desired beginning in April and may also be available into the fall pending need and schedules. Preference will be given to a currently enrolled student graduating on or after December 2024.

Prerequisites:

  • Available for full-time work June – August, preference to applicants who can start part-time in April or May.
  • Interested in water quality monitoring and fieldwork.
  • Experience using Excel and MS-Office software.
  • Data Management and Analysis experience.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to communicate accurately and effectively.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires frequent lifting of items weighing up to 60 pounds and walking in rough terrain.
  • Job requires working in various field conditions in all weather conditions.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Compliance with all provisions of the CRWD employee handbook
  • Must help promote a diverse, inclusive, culturally competent, and respectful workplace.
  • Currently enrolled student with some civil/geological engineering, soils, natural resources management, hydrology, and/or environmental studies experience preferred.

Compensation: $19.00/hour, depending on qualifications and experience. This position does include paid holidays, This position is eligible to receive Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST), according to State and local laws, and will accrue 1 hour of ESST for every 30 hours worked. Limited, unpaid time off is allowed with prior approval.
