Water Resources Technician

Are you hoping to get experience working in the natural resources field? Midcoast Conservancy is hiring a Water Resources Technician for this summer!

POSITION

This is a seasonal, non-exempt position for 12 weeks from late-May through mid-August, averaging 32 hours a week. This position does not include housing, however, work-related transportation may be available and work-related mileage is reimbursed. Limited weekend and/or evening work may be required. Overtime must be pre-approved. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist and independently conduct water quality monitoring by boat and land

    • Learn to sample for environmental DNA, fecal bacteria, and lake conditions

    • Assist in sample processing in a lab environment

  • Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to conduct LakeSmart property assessments, ultimately becoming independent at the assessments

    • Become proficient in identifying sources of pollution

    • Develop individualized plans for landowners to implement best management practices including recommending native plants based on site conditions

  • Conduct community education and outreach around protecting water quality
  • Communicate professionally and independently with private landowners
  • Work collaboratively as a team and be courteous of landowner requests

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Energetic, committed, and responsible, with a positive attitude
  • Motivated to work in a close team setting
  • Willing and able to conduct field work outdoors on a regular basis in a variety of weather conditions, ability to lift 30 pounds
  • Ability to communicate clearly with landowners, and supervisor
  • Must have valid driver’s license and pass a 3 year Maine Driving Record check to use company vehicle
