‘Bupup balak wayipungang’ means ‘Helping/supporting the young kids.’ ‘Wayipungitj’ means ‘supporters.’
We are seeking a Wayipungitj (formerly known as a Koori Preschool Assistant) to work across the Baw Baw, Bass Coast and South Gippsland local government areas. This position is part-time, ongoing for 25.5 hours per week.
The Wayipungitj will engage with and support Koori children in funded kindergarten programs and provide information to their families that enhances their participation in other key early childhood services, and also supports their child’s transition into school.
An Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is sought for this role as a special measure pursuant to Section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.

About you
To be successful in your application you will meet the person specification in the position description including having experience in family or children’s services.
You will also have:
- A demonstrated understanding of the Aboriginal communities in which Uniting works and knowledge of relevant organisations in the community.
- An involvement with the Aboriginal community that demonstrate credibility and acceptance.
- The ability to engage with parents, families and related local services.
- Experience in early childhood care and education settings.
