Weatherization Conservation Team Member

The Michigan Weatherization program increases the energy efficiency of low income housing through air sealing and insulation. Develop your skills in home weatherization with the YouthWork Weatherization Team to better serve our natural environment. A retrofit installer installs energy-efficiency measures to single family or 2–4-unit homes using a variety of building science best practices to improve safety, comfort, durability, indoor air quality, and energy efficiency. You will receive on the job and classroom training to learn air sealing, insulation installation, repairing and replacing doors/windows, and perform diagnostic air leakage testing. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their career looking to gain real-world experience in the field of energy efficiency.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

• Work in attics and crawl spaces
• Perform air sealing and install insulation where needed
• Use insulation machine to install loose fill attic insulation and dense pack exterior wall insulation
• Repair/replace windows and doors
• Perform diagnostic air leakage testing
• Complete required training

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Effective written and verbal communication
• Ability/willingness to promote a positive image of CFS in the community.
• Interest in learning basic construction, HVAC, Insulation, and air sealing techniques
• Work well on a team to accomplish tasks efficiently

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to crawl in small spaces and work on knees
• Complete manual labor tasks for long periods of time
