tendersglobal.net

As the Website UX and Product Design Associate, you will support Princeton University’s Web Development Services (WDS) by learning how to build academic and scholarly websites in the Princeton Site Builder content management system (CMS) in order to provide insights into the product’s development and user experience. In this position, you will work collaboratively with designers, content strategists, developers, and project managers.

We are seeking candidates excited about writing, communications, and web design to help us improve the user experience of campus websites, as well as improve the site building experience for site owners who seek to increase their comfort and confidence in using the CMS.

This position is part of Princeton’s Office of Informational Technology (OIT) Summer Experience Program. OIT is excited to welcome a cohort of undergraduate students to learn, explore, and gain professional experience in a variety of technical and administrative roles. All positions are sponsored by one of the six major departments within OIT, each specializing in a different area of information technology.

This is a temporary position.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Website Building: Act as a site owner—build page layouts, add content, and place images and media. Consider both experienced and novice customers and identify possible pain points.
  • Industry Research: Review video and written support for similar CMS products. Analyze general UX/UI trends in websites and software applications. Present findings to WDS team members.
  • Testing and Editing Documentation: Assess clarity and ease of use of existing documentation. Identify gaps, and make recommendations for improvements. Implement real-time updates on the live sites.
  • Team Brainstorming: Attend team meetings to learn about project planning and requirements gathering, implementation strategies, design decisions, development, etc.
  • UX/UI Design: Create or test designs and components in Figma (depending on interest and skill level). Provide feedback on group design work.

Skills you bring to the table:

  • Detail oriented
  • Creative thinker
  • Strong writer and communicator
  • Collaborator and team player
  • Familiar with design software (Figma specifically is a plus)
  • Excitement about great digital experiences and interfaces
  • Interest in brand development
  • Interest in visual or UX design
  • Experience in writing and editing
  • Knowledge of site building content management systems (SquareSpace, Wix, WordPress, or Drupal)

Skills you will gain:

  • Listen, incorporate, and manage diverse requests
  • Introduction to Digital Accessibility: Understand what it means to make digital platforms and communications available to all users
  • Full Project Lifecycle from within an “agency”: See how websites are built from initial brainstorming and client meetings to final production and launch
  • User Perspective: Discover the challenges of balancing business goals with user goals when launching a new product
