POSITION ADVERTISEMENT

LOCATION: Remote consultancy – with one (1) potential field visit

DURATION: 2 months – 7 days/month

START DATE: ASAP

COMPENSATION: $928/day – Travel expenses to be covered by GEG

Background

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) is the lead federal coordinator for international disaster assistance. BHA provides and coordinates U.S. Government (USG) international humanitarian assistance to save lives, alleviate human suffering, and reduce the physical, social, and economic impact of rapid and slow-onset disasters by supporting at-risk populations to build stable foundations to withstand humanitarian shocks and stresses.

Team Credence, through the Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance Support Contract (BHASC), provides operational and administrative support to BHA enabling USAID humanitarian assistance and 24/7 response capability. There are 5 Tasks within the BHASC. Task 3 Field Program Support ensures that BHA’s constantly evolving field support requirements are met.

Global Emergency Group, Inc. (GEG) is the Task 3 Field Program Support lead for Team Credence and BHASC. Founded in 2007, GEG supports Team Credence and BHASC through the provision of readiness and operational response support services to BHA as it responds to crises around the world. The GEG headquarters is near Winchester, Virginia with our global team based all over the world.

Requirements Overview

Under the supervision of the BHASC Task 3 Human Resources Team and coordinating with the GEG Field Programs Directors, the Wellbeing Specialist will a) provide immediate psychosocial and wellbeing support that is tailored to the needs of all GEG personnel including those operating in the Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Sudan, Uganda and Ukraine; b) assist these personnel to manage trauma, stress and burnout effectively; c) in coordination with other BHASC partners develop psychosocial and wellbeing support tools, processes and systems that all personnel can access and d) analyze the advantages/disadvantages of enlisting localized wellbeing support for the longer term, and if the recommendation is advantageous, develop a roadmap to action this.

Scope of Work

Position Description

The Wellbeing Specialist will provide online individual counseling sessions for Task 3 personnel experiencing acute stress or trauma in Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Sudan, Uganda and Ukraine.

The Wellbeing Specialist will:

  1. Conduct a rapid organizational wellbeing analysis to understand the specific psychosocial and wellbeing challenges faced by Task 3 personnel staff.
  2. Familiarize themselves with the BHASC or USAID services already offered, methodologies used, and materials produced.
  3. Provide online individual counseling sessions for Task 3 personnel experiencing acute stress or trauma.
  4. In coordination with other BHASC partners, design and develop psychosocial and wellbeing support tools, processes and systems that all personnel can access. This may (or may not) include:
    1. Individual counseling sessions for staff experiencing acute stress or trauma;
    2. Group workshops focusing on stress management, resilience building, and coping strategies;
    3. Training sessions on psychological first aid and self-care techniques for new staff;
    4. Peer support networks and buddy systems to promote ongoing emotional support among staff.
  5. Trial and test the tools, processes and systems including potentially through one (1) field visit.
  6. Ensure accessibility and confidentiality of psychosocial and wellbeing support services for all staff members.
  7. Monitor the implementation process of all psychosocial and wellness support delivered and adjust interventions based on feedback and emerging needs.
  8. Analyze the advantages/disadvantages of enlisting localized wellbeing support for the longer term, and if the recommendation is advantageous, develop a roadmap to action this.
  9. Evaluation and Reporting**:**
    1. Evaluate the effectiveness of psychosocial and wellbeing interventions through feedback mechanisms and impact assessment tools.
    2. Provide delivery reports detailing activities conducted, outcomes achieved, and lessons learned.
    3. Provide a final report summarizing overall impact, lessons learned and recommendations for sustaining and scaling psychosocial and wellbeing support services within both Task 3 and BHASC.

Position Qualifications

Required:

  • Education and Experience: BS 8+ Years, MS 6+
  • 4+ years’ experience working in situ in humanitarian emergency conflict contexts
  • Proven experience in providing psychosocial support in humanitarian emergency contexts to staff in humanitarian organizations
  • Expertise in trauma-informed care, psychological first aid, stress management, and resilience building
  • Strong facilitation skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse cultural backgrounds and vulnerable populations
  • Understanding of organizational dynamics and the ability to tailor interventions to meet specific operational and staff needs
  • English proficiency

Desired

  • French OR Arabic OR Ukrainian language proficiency

Travel Frequency

The Wellbeing Specialist will work remotely and may conduct one (1) field visit during the two months she/he is contracted. The exact number of field visits will depend on need and limitations to security access.

Working Conditions

The Wellbeing Specialist will work remotely from her/his home base. If a field visit takes place, the Wellbeing Specialist may travel to operational field locations using GEG-arranged transportation. The advisability of safe travel will be determined after consultation with the GEG Safety & Security Officer and the GEG Field Programs Director. The Wellbeing Specialist will be expected to provide their own IT and communication equipment.
