Duties and Responsibilities

As part of the Resilient Unit, assist the team on resilience building activities of Food for Assets (FFA) and Smallholder Agricultural Market Support (SAMS), under the Zero Hunger Village (ZHV) project.
Support the climate resilient initiatives including syntropic agroforestry farming (SAF).
Support socio-environmental studies for WFP activities in the field.
Based on climate change impact analysis on post-harvest loss in Guinea, participate and follow-up with internal and external research and activities on climate smart and resilient agricultural technology that can be applicable in WFP Guinea.
Contribute to the identification of climate change-related project funding opportunities and provide technical support in drafting project proposals with Partnership.
Support the colleagues in sub offices, communities, and NGOs to collect and communicate up-to-dated data, beneficiaries stories, progress and challenges.
Assist in mapping/visualizing Zero Hunger Villages with information on location, category and assets, beneficiaries, etc., to check progress and improve understanding and distribution of ZHV manuals to villagers. Provide supports on national and sub-national ZHV and rice value chain workshop organisation, including logistics, documentation, and participant engagement.
Support the monitoring and support mission to communities.
Perform relevant duties to increase food security, improve resilience and response to climate change in Guinea.

Desirable Experience

Has initial experience or demonstrated interest in international development.
Has preliminary understanding or experience on climate change and working in programme.
Has developed powerful narratives by using data analysis visualization.
Strong written and oral communication skills in English and French, including substantive analysis and writing skills.
Has motivated team spirit and contributed to a gender-balanced, inclusive and sound working environment.
Is familiar with or interested in the United Nations system and working environment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Education

Currently enrolled in a recognized university or graduate school or be a recent graduate (max. 6 months after graduation) in university degree in Public Administration, International Development, International Relations, Science and Engineering or other relevant field, or has attended University courses in the last 12 months and have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies.

Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).

Language

Excellent written and spoken English is required (proficiency/level C), minimum working professional level of French is desired.

Supervision

Under the general supervision of the Activity Manager and the direct supervision of the Climate Change Programme Officer, the incumbent will be provided with close mentoring, guidance and technical supervision. Performance planning and reviews as well as learning and development discussions will be elemental part of the supervision.

Training components

Throughout their assignments, WFP interns have access to a sector-leading learning platform, WeLearn. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.
