National Forest Foundation (NFF) is pleased to offer a regular, full-time position that will coordinate with funding prospects to grow philanthropic support for NFF programs and projects and support the Ski Conservation Fund program development and administration on the White River National Forest. The successful candidate will work remotely while based in Eagle or Summit County, Colorado and regularly meet with potential funders and Ski Conservation Fund partners.

About the NFF: The NFF works with communities and organizations to conserve and enhance the watersheds, wildlife habitat, wild places, and recreational opportunities across the 193-million-acre National Forest System. The NFF seeks to engage all Americans in this work.

Position Function: The Stewardship Coordinator reports to the Rocky Mountain Region Program Manager and works closely with other NFF and U.S. Forest Service staff to advance the NFF and White River National Forest’s goals related to the Ski Conservation Fund and generate funds from new and existing sources (including corporate, institutional, governmental, and individual) to support the NFF mission and the National Forest. The Stewardship Coordinator will focus on community engagement, fundraising, facilitation, and partner coordination. The Stewardship Coordinator is also expected to work closely with Forest Service staff as an integrated team member to provide support and technical assistance for projects and a variety of other activities associated with advancing the goals of the White River National Forest and the Ski Conservation Fund.

About the White River National Forest and Ski Conservation Fund and Stewardship: The White River National Forest is the most visited National Forest in the United States and many of its visitors arrive in the winter to ski at its beloved resorts. Visitors to Vail Resorts Inc. are offered the opportunity to donate to the Ski Conservation Fund with every lift ticket. These funds are then annually allocated through a partnership with NFF, the United States Forest Service, and other contributing partners to projects located on the White River National Forest.

Position Duties and Responsibilities: The Stewardship Coordinator will:

  • Manage, coordinate, and administer the Ski Conservation Fund by engaging stakeholders, facilitating committees, understanding Forest Service project priorities, administering SCF funds, and communicating outcomes to participating organizations through regular correspondence and annual reporting.
  • Expand the NFF base of donors by actively pursuing funding sources and creating new development and partnership opportunities.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward current and potential donors, resulting in increased charitable contributions and stronger relationships.
  • Research prospects, write proposals and reports, and track results.
  • Initiate telephone contact with prospects and funders to qualify, cultivate, and close grants and commitments.
  • Work closely with selected program staff to cultivate and solicit prospective donors, manage partner relationships, and provide editorial review for proposals, letters of inquiry, corporate decks, sponsorship materials, etc. and assist with final proposal packaging as needed.
  • Provide input on and implement fundraising strategies for the NFF work in the White River National Forest.
  • Respond to inquiries from interested donors and partners.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

Location: The position is based in Eagle or Summit County, Colorado and offers a remote work environment with occasional field and partnership meetings. The applicant must be able to travel regularly to and throughout the White River National Forest and be in a location with a reliable and strong internet service.

Compensation: The NFF offers competitive compensation and benefits and has recently implemented a new compensation program as part of our commitment to transparency. The salary range for this position will be in the $63,280 to $79,326 range. Please note that the indicated salary range describes the full range for an incumbent in this position. New staff generally start at the 35th percentile of the range percentile to ensure internal salary equity.

Requirements:

Education and Qualifications: NFF expects the Stewardship Coordinator to possess the following educational and experiential qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in project management, nonprofit development and fundraising, corporate partnerships, or other partnership stewardship and outreach.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience with proven results in conservation program management and development, and partnership development.
  • A conceptual knowledge of and some experience in federal land management policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of the White River National Forest and Western Colorado natural resource issues – or a willingness to build a working knowledge quickly – is preferred but not required.
  • Experience working effectively in collaborative efforts with individuals or groups that have conflicting views of public lands management.
  • Must be authorized tow work in the Untied States.

Abilities and Skills: NFF expects the Stewardship Coordinator to possess the following proven abilities and skills:

  • Ability to work independently, attend meetings (virtual and in person), and manage projects with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to represent NFF with diverse constituents in a clear and professional manner through excellent written and oral communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of people with differing and sometimes conflicting opinions, and to always maintain neutrality.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly, work in outdoor conditions and maintain a flexible work schedule, including participation in rarely scheduled weekend and evening events.
  • Ability to manage programs collaboratively, evaluate outcomes against quantifiable measures of success, develop reports, and clearly communicate program outcomes.
  • Ability and willingness to learn NFF’s processes and procedures.
  • Ability to manage a variety of projects and tasks, effectively, to successful completion.
  • Ability to work well and be flexible in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently throughout the White River National Forest as required by position duties.
  • A valid U.S. Driver’s License and clean driving record.
