OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The Universal Health Coverage (UHC)communicable diseases department leads the work of the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean Region to prevent, control, eliminate and eradicate communicable diseases under the broader mandate of the organization to achieve universal health coverage, protect people from health emergencies and achieve healthier lifestyle. The IVP unit provides technical leadership and coordination in vaccine preventable diseases and immunization to achieve the programme’s objectives in partnership with United Nations agencies, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative [GPEI], donor institutions and Ministries of Health in Member States.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Expert project management, including establishing a regional workplan for vaccines in OEP PPR, and working to drive connections across counter measures. Works with countries and WHO country offices on joined-up national plans for vaccines in OEP PPR. Convenes regional coordination meetings, events and workshops to align on vaccines in PPR plans and activities. Focuses on preparedness activities but flexes into response work when required due to regional needs. Works closely with the global teams, especially departments in UHL, MHP and WHE focused on vaccination activities. Drives accountability for progress against deliverables and workplan Leads the delivery of specific, operational improvements across regions on issues relevant to home region and others. Works with the central PMO to establish and maintain a “repository” of PPR-related tools and guidance to inform a range of potential PHEs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education

Essential: Master’s degree in epidemiology or public health.
Desirable: Training in immunization, health emergency, outbreak preparedness and responses.

Experience

Essential: Minimum 7 years professional experience working in public health, international development, or related field.
Desirable: Experience in immunization programmes or health systems a strong asset.

Skills

Significant project management experience, including in matrixed and cross-partner setting. Good knowledge of policies, systems, and procedures in global public health settings. Experience in multilateral environment. Critical thinking, problem solving, and creative mindset. Political acumen and ability to drive change and improvements in challenging, intercultural and complex environment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders across the spectrum of global partners, governments, technical partners, civil society, humanitarian actors and other expanded partners.
