Fire Service Assistance Coordinator, Wildland Fire Program Coordinator 1 (WFPC1)
Location: Northeast Region – Colville, Omak, Loomis or Spokane, WA.

Work Hours and Partial Telework flexibility may be available and considered
Relocation Compensation may be available and considered
Salary: $5,241.00 – $7,043.00 Monthly

The Fire Service Assistance Coordinator is an exciting position meant to build and maintain relationships with partners and ensure partners are prepared for and able to respond to the needs of Wildland Fire Suppression activities. This position will be one of two within the Northeast Region, primarily focusing on working with our partners in the West Zone of the Region.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing guidance and oversight to external partner agency operations and training.
  • Operational responsibilities will be focused on the IQS database, NWCG course offerings, Volunteer Firefighter Assistance, and Agreement Administration.
  • Collaboration with regional fire staff to ensure safe and effective preparedness and suppression efforts of our partnering Washington State Fire Service.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Two or more years of professional work in wildland fire suppression, wildland fire training, or a closely related field.
  • Experience with PMS 310-1, Incident Qualification System, or Field Manager Course Guide.
  • Experience developing and tracking a program budget.
  • Experience developing and instructing classes on wildland fire suppression activities, including knowledge of wildland fire behavior and fire line safety awareness.
  • Possess strong computer-support skills, including use of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software.
  • Knowledge of the various wildland fire suppression operations and functions.
  • Skills in critical thinking.
  • Strong communication skills using a variety of media, including public speaking skills, to effectively address large groups in an organized and logical manner.
  • Building effective relationships with others.
  • Ability to be effective and make sound decisions within a fast-paced work environment.
  • Commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.
