Wildland Fire Training Coordinator, Wildland Fire Program Coordinator 1 (WFPC1)
Full-time, Non-permanent, Represented position
Anticipated Non-permanent employment is June 2025 – January 2026
Work Hours and Partial Telework flexibility may be available and considered
Salary: $5,241.00 – $7,043.00 Monthly

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate wildland fire training with and for DNR, fire protection districts, federal agencies, tribal agencies, and others.
  • Serves as a region representative on the interagency qualification Peer Review Committee.
  • Maintains a prioritized training plan.
  • Manages a training budget and requests to ensure effective use of funds.
  • Works with division staff for fire district support through grants for equipment acquisition.
  • Position may fill other roles in the region in the Fire District Manager’s absence as experience allows.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Two years of progressively responsible professional work in wildland fire suppression, wildland fire training, or a closely related field.
  • Two years’ experience working within the Incident Command System.
  • Two years’ experience with PMS 310-1, Incident Qualification System, or Field Manager Course Guide.
  • Two years of successful experience working as a member of a geographically dispersed professional organization.
  • Possesses the ability and knowledge to develop and instruct classes about wildland fire suppression activities, including knowledge of wildland fire behavior and fireline safety awareness.
  • Familiar with various wildland fire suppression operations and functions.
  • Strong communication skills using a variety of media, including public speaking skills, to effectively address large groups in an organized and logical manner.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to be effective and make sound decisions within a fast-paced work environment.
  • Forms and maintains effective relationships with others that are based on trust and respect.
  • Possesses the ability and knowledge to develop and instruct classes about wildland fire suppression activities, including knowledge of wildland fire behavior and fireline safety awareness.
  • Demonstrated understanding of budget development and tracking.
  • Possesses strong computer-supported skills, including use of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software.
  • Commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.
