Wildlife and Outdoor Recreation Technician

Two Wildlife and Outdoor Recreation Technicians (Seasonal Worker, Full-time, 40 hours/week) positions are available with the Colorado State University (CSU) Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). This position will provide support to the natural resources program at Tinker Air Force Base (AFB), Oklahoma. This position is in-person, full-time/Monday-Friday. Hiring preference will be given to those already residing in that state.

Potential tasks may include:

The Wildlife and Outdoor Recreation Technicians will provide support to Tinker AFB’s natural resources program through a variety of vegetation monitoring, wildlife monitoring, outdoor recreation management, habitat management, and forestry management projects. Tasks will include native vegetation and wildlife surveys, the maintenance of trails, boardwalks, and outdoor recreation signage, prescribed burn surveys and firebreak maintenance. The technicians will also conduct stream, pond, and fish seine surveys, and will assist with pond erosion control. The technicians will also have the opportunity to shadow a USDA Biologist to gain exposure to various wildlife survey, telemetry, and trapping techniques. Work activities will also include survey data and equipment inventory management in the office. These tasks will require the use of hand-tools, chainsaws, weed eaters, mowers, and UTVs. Once hired, training will be provided as needed. A majority of the work will be conducted outdoors, and will largely entail working alongside other technicians once task training has been provided, though independent work will be occasionally necessary. All necessary personal protective equipment will be provided.

Successful candidate:

  • Must be physically capable of working independently in remote outdoor locations under varying weather conditions. Field activities may include conducting surveys, using hand-tools and heavy equipment, and maintaining monitoring equipment.
  • Have a B.S. in a natural resources-, environmental compliance-, or ecosystem science-related field.
  • Be a Self-starter that is comfortable working independently once direction has been given.
  • Have experience operating UTVs.
  • Have experience with chainsaws and hand-tools.
  • Will be adaptable to new tasks.
  • Will not be allergic to poison ivy, which is common in the area.

Must be able to relocate for the duration and provide vehicle to commute to the installation. ECDP is unable to provide relocation or housing costs at this time.
