Wildlife Technician

We are looking for a motivated, field-oriented Wildlife Technician to join our team and support wildlife monitoring, data collection, and habitat management projects. In this role, you will conduct field surveys, collect biological data, assist with wildlife captures and handling, and maintain equipment. If you are passionate about wildlife conservation, comfortable working outdoors, and have experience with field research or wildlife monitoring, this position offers the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in conservation science. While this role is field-based, supervision and project coordination are conducted remotely via phone, email, and video calls. You will receive clear protocols and support from a remote project manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct field surveys for wildlife species (mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians) using standardized protocols.
• Deploy and monitor camera traps, live traps, acoustic recorders, and other survey equipment.
• Collect biological samples (hair, scat, blood, tissue) following established safety and ethical protocols.
• Record and enter field data accurately into digital databases and GPS units.
• Assist with habit restoration projects, including invasive species removal, prescribed fire preparation, and native plant installation.
• Maintain and monitor wildlife food plots, water sources, and nesting structures.
• Assist with vegetation surveys and habitat assessments.
• Assist with live capture, handling, and release of wildlife for research and management purposes.
• Maintain field equipment, including traps, GPS units, cameras, and vehicles.
• Compile and organize field data for analysis and reporting, documenting field activities and observations in detailed field notes.
• Assist with preparing data summaries, maps, and reports for project managers and clients.

Requirements

• Must be a resident of the United States.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Biology, Ecology, Conservation Biology, or related field is preferred.
• Experience with wildlife survey techniques (camera traps, acoustic monitoring, small mammal trapping, bird banding) is preferred.
• Ability to identify common wildlife species (mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians) in your region.
• Familiarity with GPS units, GIS software, and data entry platforms.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to hike long distances over rough terrain, carry equipment up to 40 lbs, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to work independently in remote settings and follow complex protocols.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
