About the role

The Work, Health and Safety Business Partner is responsible for the provision of timely specialist advice and support to managers and staff to support Health, Safety and Wellbeing outcomes for all staff across cohealth.

The role is responsible for providing practical subject matter advice, conducting risk assessments, and coaching our managers around health and safety investigations and inspections.

Alongside this the Work, Health and Safety Business Partner will also support the development, implementation, monitoring and ongoing improvement of cohealth Workplace Health and Safety management plans, initiatives, relevant policies and procedures. This role will also have a prevention and early intervention focus that seeks to build competency and capacity of managers and employees with regard to best practice approaches to health and safety.

Your duties include:

  • Coordinate and facilitate timely, expert WHS advice and assistance to managers/supervisors in managing WHS
  • Regularly work with cohealth program leaders to facilitate WHS risk assessments and inspections to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions
  • Coordinate internal and external audits to ensure compliance with the WHS Management Plan and relevant legislation
  • Monitor WHS incidents and facilitate proactive early intervention injury and claim management in partnership with Workforce Operations and RTW agent
  • Working with teams to support emergency management and business continuity planning to continually improve our capability and response

Our ideal candidate

  • Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Work Health and Safety Role ideally within a Health Care or social service setting
  • Proven experience in interpreting and applying the requirements of Commonwealth and state/territory OHS legislation in the workplace
  • The proven ability and experience in navigating complex situations and providing sound decision making and advice with minimal guidance
  • Experience in the development and implementation of creative and innovative safety management approaches and in the treatment and management of high risk WHS hazards
  • A working knowledge of and Experience applying the ISO standards 45001 Occupational Health and Safety management System

All appointments are made subject to a satisfactory Police Check, a Working with Children Check (WWCC), complete a Pre-Employment Declaration Form, evidence of legal rights to work in Australia, and evidence of vaccination against COVID-19 (3 doses). Additionally, some roles will also require current AHPRA registration and/or NDIS Worker Screening Clearance.

Roles that are determined to be Risk Category A or B [staff that have direct and/or indirect contact with body substances and are at higher risk of occupational exposure to infections] will be required to provide evidence of immunisation assessment including Influenza prior to commencement [A] or within 12 weeks of commencement [B]. This is in accordance with the Victorian Minister of Health Mandatory Vaccination Orders for COVID-19 and legislated requirement for influenza vaccination.
