The University of Southern California’s (USC’s) Information Technology Services is seeking a talented Workday Reporting Developer with an exceptional commitment to service excellence to join our Application Services team.  The Workday Reporting Developer supports the reporting, analytics, and data needs of the university’s financial, academic, and business units.  This includes support for existing Financial and HCM operational reports, ad-hoc requests, compliance reporting, user training, issue resolution, and support.

The Workday Reporting Developer designs, develops and maintains business intelligence reports and dashboards to support effective decision-making throughout the business. This role ensures that solutions balance technical excellence with usability and accessibility while delivering best-in-class solutions to support a broad range of customers, partners, and key stakeholders.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

The candidate for the position of Workday Reporting Developer must meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as computer science, computer information systems, etc., or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Two years of experience in information technology, higher education, or another relevant field.
  • Extensive experience developing reports and dashboards leveraging a business intelligence and/or reporting platform.
  • Experience creating and optimizing SQL queries and working with databases.
  • Experience with issue tracking, ticketing systems, source control, and revision systems.
  • Foundational knowledge of the development and configuration of software solutions.
  • Ability to understand and work with large, complex systems.
  • A foundational understanding of security concepts and secure code development techniques.
  • Experience writing test cases for new and existing code to ensure compatibility and stability.
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships and a strong rapport with team members.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to provide detailed information as well as summaries to peers and supervisors.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate for the position of Workday Reporting Developer meets the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as computer science, computer information systems, business administration, etc.
  • More than four years of experience in information technology, higher education, or another relevant field
  • Proficiency in Workday data solutions, such as report development, Prism, Worksheets, Studio, etc.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Workday, including comprehensive knowledge of its HCM and Financial Management modules.
  • A background in Workday training or certification is highly desirable, along with a deep understanding of Workday’s reporting capabilities, such as using Report Writer and Composite Reporting for custom reports and analytics.
  • A solid foundation in premier analytical tools, including R and Python.

Job Accountabilities:

The Workday Reporting Developer:

  • Creates, develops, revises, and maintains software applications and solutions, adapting to regularly changing priorities. Ensures code is asserted, supported, and performed as intended upon implementation. Produces and presents problem-solving rationales to diverse audiences within various settings. Collaborates with key stakeholders within ITS and other university departments, working to develop an understanding of technical specifications and deliver features and services based on business requirements.
  • Collaborates with team members and management, implementing practical solutions to support the Application Services team’s vision. Maintains currency with technology, standards, and best practices. Supports process improvement efforts within the team and across the ITS organization.
  • Handles and routes customer requests appropriately for tracking and resolution. Supports customer point-of-views when identifying priorities and presenting solutions, leveraging insights on customer pain points, challenges, and needs. Provides customer-focused solutions and builds and maintains effective customer relationships through timely follow-ups and efficient, effective feedback.
  • Leverages business intelligence tools to design, develop, test, and support reports and dashboards. Works independently or with a team to gather and interpret report specifications and identify data requirements. Enables easy adoption of reports and dashboards by assisting with training and outreach programs.
  • Communicates and presents problem-solving rationale within various settings and to diverse audiences. Works collaboratively with team members, stakeholders, and vendors to understand specifications and deliver features based on business requirements. Participates in open and honest sharing of ideas and opinions. Shares timely information freely and openly across the organization. Readily seeks assistance and support.
  • Leverages insights on customer pain points, challenges, and needs to provide customer-focused solutions. Supports the customer’s point of view when identifying priorities and presenting solutions. Builds and maintains effective customer relationships by providing timely follow-up and feedback. The annual base salary range for this position is $120,000 – $135,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
