Are you a passionate and culturally aware individual with a vision for the future? We’re on the lookout for a dedicated Youth AOD Aboriginal Cultural Advisor to join our team at GYRRP (Gippsland Youth Residential Rehabilitation Program) in Traralgon.

In this role, you’ll play a pivotal role in providing culturally sensitive support and guidance to young people on their journey to recovery. Your cultural expertise and commitment will be instrumental in helping these individuals reconnect with their heritage and find a path to healing.

In this role you will also:

  • Serve as a culturally competent bridge between the young clients and the program, fostering trust and understanding.
  • Provide culturally appropriate counselling and support to young people facing AOD issues.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure a sensitive and holistic approach to care.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of relevant educational programs.
  • Facilitate connections between clients and their Aboriginal heritage, helping them rediscover their cultural identity.

What’s on offer

About you

You will have a bachelor qualification in AOD counselling, social work, or a related field as well as:

  • A strong cultural connection and deep understanding of Aboriginal heritage and values.
  • Previous experience working with Aboriginal youth in the context of AOD counselling.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a diverse team.
  • Compassion, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach to client care.
