Youth Conservation Corps: Crew Member

POSITION PURPOSE: 

Youth crews will work on planting gardens, invasive plant mitigation, wetland restoration, acequia  maintenance, trail maintenance, ecological monitoring, building benches and garden boxes and preparation of  agricultural lands. In addition to field work, crews will participate in educational opportunities that range from  learning about water rights and acequias in Northern New Mexico, tree pruning, water and land ecological  health, ArcGIS mapping, leadership training, career development, and identifying invasive species. Crew field work will be conducted by one Project Lead, two Crew Leads, and 12 Crew Members and overseen by the Education Director.

POSTION TYPE: Seasonal, Part-time or Full-time, non-exempt

SCHEDULE: 15 to 32 hours per week, Monday – Thursday

SALARY: $16.25 per hour

REPORTS TO: Taos Land Trust YCC Crew Lead

DATES: Full Season May 19 – October 31, 2025; Summer Season June 2 – July 31

LOCATION: Taos, NM – Most work to take place at Taos Land Trust property/Rio Fernando Park at 410 La Posta Rd. and at Rio Hondo Fishing Park.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:  

• Work hard on all projects as part of a team.
• Report for work daily and stay for a full shift.
• Actively participate in daily check-ins and educational training sessions.
• Maintain safe work environment to ensure physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
• Comply with work standards set forth by Taos Land Trust, Educational Coordinator, and Crew Leaders.
• Maintain a positive and professional attitude.
• Be willing to reflect on your experiences and share feedback in a group setting.
• Respect the natural environment and community resources.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

• 14 – 25 years of age, not to turn 26 until after you complete your work assignment.
• Be a New Mexico resident at least 6 months before hire.
• Be unemployed at the time of hire.
• Be a US citizen or legal resident of the US or its territories.
• Have reliable transportation and a strong work ethic.
• Able to commit to and show up on time for the entire length of service.
• Be a good team player and work with a diverse group of peers.
• Able to work in a supervised environment.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:  

In performing the essential functions of this position, the Crew Lead will be required to:

• Lift or move up to 50 pounds occasionally and 10 to 20 pounds on a regular basis.
• Navigate and traverse uneven terrain.
• Receive detailed information through oral communication and communicate well with others.
• Work out of doors, subject to outside environmental conditions.
