Thamarrurr Development Corporation (TDC) is seeking a Youth Engagement & Diversion Officer to join our dynamic Wadeye team.

Wadeye is a large remote Indigenous community in the North-West Daly region. TDC is a thriving Not-for-Profit corporate entity organisation, owned and established by the 20 clans of the Thamarrurr Region.

The Youth Engagement & Diversion Officer will provide responsive, culturally sound case management to clients referred on Youth Division (YD) and facilitate relevant early intervention activities for young people at risk of entering the criminal justice system, adhering to the best practice principles. You’ll be working collaboratively with local stakeholders and community elders to ensure positive pathways and community connection and successful outcomes in training, employment, and restorative practices.

Main duties include:

  • Contributing to the development and delivery of the Youth diversion program.
  • Ensure programs and activities reflect outcomes of the funding agreement.
  • Assist and support in early intervention practices or activities.
  • Improve a young person’s resilience and connectedness with family, community, and culture.
  • Explore opportunities for activities, education, training, and employment engagement.
  • Manage and develop the local staff.

To be successful you:

  • Must have exceptional interpersonal and communication, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Understand the challenges faced by participants living in remote Australia.
  • Have a high level of time management and organisational skills.
  • High level of resilience, flexibility and adaptability.
  • Prior demonstrated experience working within community development/social services case management framework.
  • Ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders

Other requirements:

  • Working with Children/Vulnerable Peoples clearance – OCHRE Card
  • Current National Police Clearance
  • Northern Land Council Work Permit / Resident Permit
  • Current NT Open Driver’s License or ability to obtain one
