About Us
Lifting Hands International operates a community center in Serres, a small city about an hour from Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. We work with a population of 1000+ refugees & asylum seekers at the local camps, providing regular aid distributions and a range of psychosocial support programs.
Role Profile
The Youth Engagement Leader will work closely with the Community Engagement Manager and HR Director, contributing to developing and running the Youth Programs at LHI. This includes working with Community Volunteers to provide activities for children and teenagers. Community Volunteers are people who live in Serres Refugee camp and volunteer with us. They are both volunteers as well as users of our services.
This will be a cross cutting activity that would work in collaboration with the Child Friendly Space, Arts and Recreation as well as the Female Friendly Space in working with the Community Volunteers to provide engaging outdoor activities.
Next to the specific Community Engagement tasks, the Youth Engagement role will be a part of the facilitator team and will be required to facilitate the day to day running of our programs including logistic and warehouse shifts.
Main Responsibilities
- Working with Community Volunteers to create, support and refine outdoor activities for children and young adults.
- Working as part of the Community Engagement team to schedule and plan an outdoor activity program
- Making sure that classes and activities start and finish on time
- Safeguarding Community Volunteers, ensuring they aren’t being put in difficult situations
- Liaising with Community Volunteers to make sure we have all the equipment for the class or activity
- Leading activities in the event our Community Facilitator is unable to attend
- Working with females from the Female Friendly Space to ensure a safe space outdoors
- Managing the Youth Leader Budget
Essential Criteria
- Quick thinker, proactive, motivated, open-minded, able to work in a fast-paced working environment, positive and adaptable to work with limited shared language with program participants
- Excellent communication skills
- Professional attitude, able to remain calm under pressure
- Able to work well in a large, multicultural team
- Fluent English speaker
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Greek / Arabic / Kurmanji / Farsi / French
- Interest / Experience coaching sports / music / creative activities
- Understanding of the implementation of Psycho-Social-Support programs
- Potential to stay on the team for 3+ months – with a possibility to extend
- Previous experience working with refugees, forcibly displaced persons, or at-risk youth
We offer
- Free shared accommodation in the volunteers apartment
- Five-day work week + full week break after every 6 weeks of work
- Monthly reimbursement (250 euros per month)
