Job Description

Haven Green Baptist Church is seeking a gifted and passionate Youth Ministry Worker to lead and develop our young people. Working in partnership with our Children & Youth Coordinator, you will play a key role in discipling young people, supporting their spiritual growth, and engaging with their families as part of the wider church community.

The Church is particularly blessed with a significant number of young men in the youth group, with a healthy international mix. We also benefit from a number of gifted volunteers who work with the young people and we’re at a stage where we would like to invest more time in our young people to be available for them at a key time in their lives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the vision for youth ministry at Haven Green in collaboration with the Children & Youth Coordinator.
  • Support and disciple young people through teaching, mentoring, and leading by example.
  • Build relationships with young people and their families, offering pastoral support where needed.
  • Expand youth ministry beyond Sunday services, creating opportunities for additional activities, gatherings, and outreach.
  • Connect with other youth ministries and groups within the church and the local community.
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of All-Age worship services.
  • Recruit, train, and equip volunteers to support the youth ministry effectively.
  • Carry out administrative tasks related to the role, including rotas and event planning.

Person Specification

Christian Character and Attitude: We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a deep and personal faith in Jesus Christ, demonstrated through worship, prayer, and Bible study and by personal example.
  • Is passionate about helping young people encounter Jesus and grow as His disciples.
  • Is open to the work of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit.
  • Is a team player who encourages, empowers, and supports others.
  • Aligns with the values of Haven Green Baptist Church and the Evangelical Alliance statement of faith.
  • Displays a servant-hearted approach.
  • Is flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances.
  • Has a strong understanding of safeguarding principles for working with young people.

Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • At least two years of experience (voluntary or salaried) in youth ministry or a similar role.
  • Strong ability to relate to and engage with young people and their families.
  • Good understanding of contemporary youth ministry and a willingness to pursue ongoing development.
  • Ability to disciple young people effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational and leadership abilities.
  • Initiative, creativity, and the ability to see tasks through to completion.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with young people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Theological training.
  • Experience in mentoring, coaching, or training others.
  • IT skills, including Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Awareness of the complexities of working with young people with neurodiversity, having a good understanding of their unique needs and strengths.

Appointment to this position is subject to an enhanced DBS Criminal Record Check. Employment is contingent on a satisfactory DBS certificate.

Haven Green Baptist Church is located in Ealing Broadway, a diverse and vibrant area in London. We are a growing church committed to being an authentic community of disciple-making disciples, working in partnership with other churches to see God’s kingdom come.

Our church has a congregation size of approximately 150 people of all ages attending Sunday worship, of which, about 40 are youth and children. We are a diverse congregation, representing many nationalities and languages, and have recently welcomed around 50 new people from Hong Kong.

This is a new role within our church, and we are excited to welcome a Youth Ministry Worker to help nurture and develop our growing youth ministry.

  2. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews on 5th or 6th June 2025, with a second-round demo-session with young people on 15th or 29th June.
  3. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide at least two references: one character reference (e.g., from a church leader or mentor) and one employment reference (preferably from a recent employer or supervisor). References will be taken up prior to the appointment, including a safeguarding reference where appropriate.

What We Offer

  • Up to 20 hours per week with flexible scheduling, though core hours will include Sundays and youth events.
  • Salary: £28,000 – £32,000 per annum (based on 35 hours per week). For 20 hours per week, this equates to £16,000 – £18,285, depending on skills and experience.
  • Annual leave: Pro rata equivalent to five weeks plus bank holidays.
  • Contributory pension scheme after a six-month probation period.
