About the Program

#U-Turn provides young people with alternatives to detention and pathways out of the justice system. The program is part of the Territory Families Back on Track initiative, supporting young people aged between 8 and 17 years of age. By focusing on both the individual and their family, we ensure young people are given the tools and support they need to take them into a happy and successful adulthood. The approach builds on Anglicare NT’s commitment to working in innovative ways with young people and their families.

About the Opportunity

The Youth Support Worker is responsible for providing culturally appropriate and responsive direct support and groupwork to young people aged 14 – 17 years on statutory youth justice orders.

Using a trauma informed, strengths-based framework you will ensure the service is supporting young people to engage in restorative justice processes, community giving programs and developing life skills to pathway into education, training and/or employment through the provision of support plans, family support, information, advocacy and group work.

To be successful you will:

  • Be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.
  • Hold a Cert IV or Diploma in Youth, Community or Human Services
  • Have prior experience working with high risk/vulnerable young people and families.
  • Demonstrated collaboration and networking skills to ensure services meet young person’s needs.
  • Have knowledge of youth justice, child protection system and local youth & family services
  • Prior experience or, at a minimum, demonstrated commitment to working respectfully with Indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse clients, communities, staff, and Aboriginal controlled organisations.

Note: This position this is a short term contract (six months) leave cover position and has the flexibility to be part time or full time – minimum 4 days per week is required.

Please note: It is a requirement that prior to commencing in this role, you must possess a Working with Children (Ochre Card), a National Criminal History Check (within 3 months) and a current NT manual driver’s license.
