As a data scientist, you will apply your expertise in programming, statistical analysis, and data mining across a wide range of projects to support and accelerate Insmed Innovation UK’s drug discovery and development programmes. Responsibilities: Key Responsibilities

  • Be a contributor in a dynamic multidisciplinary team, designing appropriate analyses and implementing statistical models.
  • Provide analytical and statistical rigour to empower better decision making during experimental design.
  • Act as a subject expert, working with scientists and project leads to perform in silico experiments and promote hypothesis driven data interrogation.
  • Promote data integrity by employing current Insmed best practices for data handling and storage, to empower broadscale analyses.
  • Liaise with internal and external collaborators.

Qualifications and other requirementsRequired:

  • A PhD (or a MSc plus equivalent experience) in bioinformatics, biology, genetics, medicine, machine learning, statistics, computer science or a similar area
  • A keen interest in data science and machine learning and a passion for understanding complex data.
  • Experience utilising machine learning or Bayesian models, particularly when applied to sparse or minimal data sets
  • Confident coding in python and using common third-party python libraries (pytorch, pyspark, scikitlearn, scipy, pandas, …etc).
  • Experience presenting findings to non-experts
  • A good understanding of statistics and their application across a range of data types.
  • Experience with git version control, preferably with familiarity of branching and merging

Desirable:

  • Experience working and coding within a team
  • Experience working with structed data and SQL databases
  • Experience with Docker
  • Experience analysing gene perturbation studies (e.g. siRNA, CRISPR, Base editing, Prime editing, …etc).
  • Knowledge of common genetic association methodologies (e.g., GWAS, gene burden)
  • Experience developing tools within a cloud environment (AWS, gcloud, Azure, …etc,)

  • This position is an onsite (Cambridge, UK) – with an option for Hybrid working.
