Main purpose of job:
The primary purpose of this role is to serve as the Embassy’s principal driver, forming part of the Logistics team’s driver fleet. The postholder will be responsible for transporting the Ambassador and other officials to a range of appointments, events and functions, as well as providing transport support for additional passengers as required. In addition, the role includes undertaking general administrative duties in support of the Executive Office and the Transport, Logistics and Protocol Officer, ensuring the smooth and efficient delivery of Embassy operations.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Provide safe, reliable and professional transport for the His Majesty’s Ambassador, Embassy officials, staff and visitors, ensuring full compliance with local traffic laws and regulations at all times.
- Ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers, including guaranteeing that all journeys are conducted to the highest standards.
- Maintain regular and proactive communication with the Executive Office and Logistics team, providing updates on travel times and ensuring preparedness through effective route planning, including alternative options where required.
- Support official visits and high-level engagements, including acting as Lead Driver and coordinating externally contracted drivers when necessary.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all journeys through a detailed logbook, ensuring it is signed by passengers and properly filed for audit purposes.
- Ensure assigned vehicles are kept in excellent mechanical condition, including coordinating servicing, maintenance, repairs, cleaning and refuelling.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections, checking key safety and operational components such as brakes, lights, oil, water levels, tyre pressure and fuel, and promptly report any issues to the Transport Officer.
- Ensure vehicles are clean and presentable before and after each journey.
- Provide broader support to the Logistics team, dedicating up to 50% of time (when not engaged in official driving duties) to administrative and operational tasks, including the collection and delivery of official documents.
- Demonstrate flexibility and availability to work additional hours as required, in line with business needs and local labour regulations.

Essential:
- At least 5 years of professional driving experience.
- A valid driving licence.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to make effective decisions.
- Willingness to work outside regular hours when required.
- Ability to work well under pressure.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.

Working Patterns
48 hour working week from Monday to Friday: 0800-1800. Please be aware that occasional out of hours work will be required.
