Responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene of the residence, formally known as Westminster House, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for the High Commissioner, visitors and house guests.
The residence is primarily used as a place for diplomatic entertainment and events aiming to strengthen the UK-Australian relationship. In addition, the residence is used to accommodate visiting Ministers and Officials and has a separate private apartment, the primary residence of the High Commissioner (and family).
The housekeeper will work alongside the residence manager, the butler and the chef, in a space that promotes an inclusive diverse culture of respect.
Roles and responsibilities:
Primarily responsible for the cleanliness of Westminster House ensuring an orderly and pristine environment for the High Commissioner, guests and visitors.
Tasks include but not limited to:
- Routine vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, dusting and polishing surfaces and silverware of the representational areas.
- Clean and sanitize assigned areas, including bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, common areas and workspaces.
- Ensure guest rooms are cared for and cleaned to a high standard with attention to detail. Including making beds and changing linens ensuring fresh bedding and towels ready for occupancy.
- Laundry management, including caring for High Commissioner’s personal clothing, washing, drying, ironing. Conduct regular cleaning of machines.
- Collect and remove trash and debris.
- Conduct a full review of all linen in the residence and notify the Manager of any damages or deficits.
- Check stock levels of all consumables and replace when appropriate.
- Liaise with the Manager reporting any safety hazards and maintenance issues and concerns related to the cleanliness of the guest bedrooms.
- Assisting with special events or non-related cleaning as needed.

- Attention to detail and ability to maintain high cleanliness standards.
- Physical stamina to lift, bend, kneel and stand for extended periods, often handling up to 10 kilos.
- Ability to work independently following established cleaning schedules and procedures.

Working patterns:
The standard working hours for this role is Monday – Friday 08:00 – 13:00, with working schedule to be agreed with the Line Manager. The overall package includes the standard 14 days of public holidays that the UK in Australia Network works to, as well as 22 days’ annual leave.
