Department Summary Financial Aid & Scholarships (FAS) is committed to helping students achieve their educational goals by providing financial guidance and assistance within the guidelines of regulatory requirements. Through educational endeavors and student outreach, FAS remains a vital contributor to UNT’s enrollment success.
Position Overview The Assistant Director of Financial Aid – Scholarship Management System (SMS) will be responsible for the maintenance and on-going development of UNT’s Scholarship Management System (Blackbaud) and serve as a member of the Financial Aid & Scholarship (FAS) Leadership Team. This position will serve as project lead for on boarding new Blackbaud users, maintaining and/or enhancing services for existing users, and serve as the main point of contact with the SMS vendor. Position will manage the processing of scholarships awarded via Blackbaud and supervise the team (1.5 FTE) tasked with related scholarship processing and customer service duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in related field and four years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Proficiency in MS Office.
• In depth knowledge of financial aid processes, policies and procedures or ability to quickly assimilate.
• Ability to problem-solve, multi-task and organize in a fast-paced collaborative environment.
• Ability to effectively communicate.
• Develops and maintains effective working relationships.
• Remains current in profession.

Preferred Qualifications The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
  • Thorough knowledge of federal and state rules and regulations related to financial aid & scholarship administration.
  • Thorough knowledge of University policies and procedures related to financial aid & scholarship administration (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
  • Prior experience with PeopleSoft.
  • Prior experience with Blackbaud (or a similar Scholarship Management System)
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work independently.

Required License / Registration / Certification
Work Schedule Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, with occasional evenings/weekends

Job Duties

o Manage and maintain UNT’s Scholarship Management System (Blackbaud) to include troubleshooting technical and functional needs for end users and serving as main point of contact with vendor, Blackbaud.
o Serve as project lead for on-boarding new users, updating existing users application and/or required reports, and implementing improvements to existing configuration and business processes.
o Serve as a member of the FAS Leadership Team and supervise the team (1-2 FTE) tasked with posting scholarships awarded via Blackbaud, providing related external and internal customer service, and completing related quality controls.
o Provide training, guidance, and written policy/procedures to department users, direct reports, and applicable customer service and advising staff.
o Review and analyze existing policy, business processes, and practices to identify needed improvements with goal to develop and maintain best business practices.
o Review and analyze awarding data with goal to identify and implement effective quality controls and ensure the effective and meaningful use of scholarship funds.
