Assistant Economist – Consultancy Team
Capital Economics
Job Description:
Capital Economics is one of the world’s leading independent economic research companies. Our goal is to provide our clients with original, timely and insightful analysis supported by solid economic thinking.
We are looking for two people to join us in London as Assistant Economists to work in our expanding Consultancy team. In exceptional circumstances recruitment may be at Economist level. The roles are suitable for candidates with up to two years relevant workplace experience. Successful candidates will contribute research, analysis and drafting to our bespoke client projects.
We work with a range of clients in the financial services, corporate and government sectors. We are looking for talented candidates interested in applying their economic education and analytical skills to help our clients answer their most pressing questions.
Examples of the type of work the team delivers include:
You will be responsible for delivering parts of larger projects and the entirety of smaller projects, including liaising with clients. As part of your work, you will have the opportunity to further develop your economic analysis skills and apply those skills to real-world questions faced by companies, governments, and industry representative bodies. You will learn how a range of analytical techniques (such as economic forecasting, econometrics, survey analysis) are applied in a professional environment. You will also gain experience in presenting and communicating economic concepts and analysis, and how to tailor your communication style to a range of audiences. In addition to building your technical expertise, you will also develop your time management skills and learn how to balance work across competing priorities.
You will benefit from being exposed to Capital Economics’ broader team of country and sector economists. This includes attending internal discussions on the economic outlook and our house view as well as having access to the full suite of Capital Economics’ publications, podcasts and drop-ins.
To develop your skills, you will receive training and guidance from your colleagues and attend in-house classes run by our award-winning economists.
Key tasks will include:
At Capital Economics, we are striving to create a diverse workforce and inclusive environment, which we believe are critical to help us make better decisions for the company, our employees and our clients. A diverse and inclusive workplace makes for more innovative, engaged and empowered employees, from whom business strength can be derived. This is particularly important in macroeconomic research, which relies on a diversity of views and opinions to be relevant and insightful.
Capital Economics is committed to equality, inclusion and diversity. We encourage applications from all candidates regardless of ethnicity, religion or belief, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability or gender identity.
Please send a CV with a short covering letter explaining why you want to be a professional economist, why you want to work for Capital Economics and why you are suited to the role. Also, please indicate how you heard about Capital Economics.
