Position Focus:
The Yale Center for Analytical Sciences (YCAS) is seeking an experienced statistician to provide statistical support to clinical investigators in the Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) at the Yale School of Medicine. The DEM is engaged in clinical research spanning many topics (e.g. substance use and addiction, quality of care, trauma). This statistician will be responsible for the provision of analytic support for clinical research projects in the DEM. The position will be under the direction of a YCAS faculty statistician within DEM.
Meet with DEM clinical investigators to discuss their projects and analytic requirements. Prepare statistical analysis plans. Perform statistical analyses for many types of data and types of studies including clinical trials, health services projects, epidemiologic studies, time-series and biomarker studies. Communicate with clinical investigators about action items, timelines, deliverables and updates on project progress. Create tables, listings and figures to summarize results. Prepare written reports that summarize the analysis of research data, interpret the findings and provide conclusions and recommendations. Draft written statistical and results sections of manuscripts and other dissemination materials. Edit manuscripts and other forms of dissemination to assure appropriate interpretation of statistical methods and results. Provide general biostatistical consultation and assistance to DEM faculty, residents, fellows, students and staff. Maintain analytic code and documentation in order to reliably reproduce results. Create and update records of projects in YCAS tracking database. Work on several projects concurrently.
Essential Duties
1. Evaluates and analyzes data using accepted statistical and biostatistical techniques. 2. Investigates, analyzes, and evaluates complex statistical and programming problems. Determines proper methodology, testing standards, and evaluation processes for research projects. Recommends and develops statistical approaches for use in analyses. 3. Prepares analysis plans and writes detailed specifications for analysis files, consistency checks, tables, and figures; communicates with clients regarding statistical analysis issues. 4. In collaboration with research investigators, contributes to the design of research studies, develops analytical plans, conducts statistical analysis and interpret the results. 5. Ensures the integrity of databases used in analyses through development of essential data cleaning and checks, and data back-ups. 6. Plans statistical programming activities and schedules to provide investigators with time frames for projects. 7. Recommends and develops statistical approaches by testing and prototyping. 8. Organizes and creates documents and tables related to datasets; communicates with data sources about data accuracy and data dictionary. 9. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Master’s Degree in Biostatistics, Statistics or relevant field. Two years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skill/Ability 1:
Excellent written and oral communication skills.Excellent organization skills with the ability to multi-task by setting working priorities among a number of conflicting demands.
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Excellent programming skills with proficiency in SAS (advanced SAS programing certificate is preferred); additional proficiency in R, other statistical programming languages, or general programming languages a plus.
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Demonstrated ability on a variety of clinical research projects (e.g. clinical trials, epidemiologic studies, analyses of large data bases).
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Ability to work in a collaborative environment with the Biostatistics team and clinical investigators having differing quantitative and clinical backgrounds.
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Ability to write, discuss and present the statistical aspects of studies with Biostatistics team and clinical investigators.
